i'm having a problem installing these - Dox, please read:

i have sli 7950 gtx and windows xp 32 bit.

i had your 180.84.1 drivers previously, and they worked perfectly. i uninstalled them, rebooted into safemode, cleaned out nvidia stuff via driver cleaners. went to install the 181.20 drivers of yours and i go to where i install for balance, it goes to install on my first card, and when it gets to the second card, it black screens and sits there. so i have to force it to reboot, and it goes to a blue screen when i try to boot into windows.

    any ideas?

Oblivion performance actually dropped quite a bit compared to official 179.28. That and testing custom res I want were failed for whatever reason. I'm sticking with official drivers

EDIT: Well my fault, I didn't check the monitor to make suremy clocks were oc'd. Same oblivion drop with the official drivers. Still, I wanted my custom res, I use 1366 and 1600 pretty often.

Boot into safe mode (vga mode) and remove the current drivers and go back to the previous one.

well i understand that. i can't even boot into windows with the dox optimised 181.20. they aren't installing properly and are throwing BSOD at me, so i have to reboot into safemode and go back to 180.84.1 if i want to use windows.

they won't even install on my second card. under safe mode, i see my secondary card is installed first, then the primary one has some VGA driver on it, but the driver is "unknown" though does exist. it downloaded something onto the other card, but doesn't fully install it. since it's my primary card (or i assume so because that card has a different vbios and whatnot) it won't boot up windows as it's confused on how to run stuff.

Installed these and I am noticing things are a bit more smooth in Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Company of Heroes Opposing Force over the 180.48.1 DOX.

Also I can get a decent overclock now! Running at Core 575, Mem 800, Shader 1500 on my 9800m GS if anyone is interested.

    Thanks DOX!

EEeeek! Are the GS clocks really that much slower than the GTS???

The gs plays all my games at stock clocks on high settings. I only use my OC for some parts of fallout 3 as i have all the draw distances up. I clocked my GS to the GTS just to check out if it could handle those clocks which it does, but I find I just don't need it. I wouldn't worry.

I think its somewhere around a 6 percent difference between the two...

    9800m GS = 530 core, 799 Memory, 1325 Shader
    9800m GTS = 600 core, 800 Memory, 1500 Shader

    Difference
    GS/GTS = 88% of core/shader, 99% of memory

    The GTS is indeed faster...
However, there isn't THAT much of a difference.

this driver is ok. Not the best driver yet but it gets the job done. Still like 185.20 or 180.70. I say skip this one.

Awake. Try using Laptopvideo2go's 185.20 drivers. That is the best driver by far.

Overall response to these drivers doesn't seem to positive so I'll skip them. I still can't install the official 181.20 drivers. Every time I restart after installation, I am still left with the standard VGA display and it's like the driver installation never happened. Used the modded inf from laptopvideo2go and it didn't work. Tried modding the inf with the mobility modder tool, which I do with all my drivers, and it still didn't work.

I liked 185.20 but can't use those because I get a black screen after resuming from sleep mode.

Don't you use System Restore or use any backups you can restore back to?

I always make sure I can completely go back to how my system was before installing anything major, especially any sort of drivers.

i talked with Dox on laptopvideo2go and he said they might just not work with my cards.

it's easy to boot into safemode and clean out video drivers.

i don't use system restore because i had a virus one time, and it ended up being all inside the system restore points after i cleaned out my computer.

You have to realize that the core architecture is much different. I have 64 stream processors in my card and you have 32. So at the same clock speeds I would have double the power on my 9800m compared to your card AND my memory is DDR3 256-bit which can talk to everything much faster so you have a possible bottle neck there (DDR2 128-bit).

This is very important when choosing a card... clocks usually don't matter! Its all about whats in the core.

any other asus g50vt-x1 owners agree? or post what drivers you are using and for what games.

Im only playing cod4 and world at war at the moment.

Using 181.20 DOX right now and they seem to be the best for me.

The 185 beta drivers without the occlusion give the best numbers but are just plain unstable. (fallout3 crashes with driver fail, L2 crashes with driver fail)

The 179.28 nvidia moblie give the best 3dmark06 scores, and are stable, but do not perform as well as the 181.20 DOX drivers in Fallout3.

The 181.20 DOX give me the best combination of performance and stability and have the highest scores short of the 185 beta drivers in Fallout3.

Now, granted, my gaming is limited due to time constraints.

    Current games are:
    Fallout3
Lineage2 (old, so only really an indication of compatibility/stability)

One thing of note, 181.20 DOX do not crash out of 3dmark06 with moderate overclock.
Previous drivers would OC, but crash in 3dmark06. This one doesn't.
The heat is about the same though, reaching and staying over 85C (Max 87C) which is still too warm for my taste for comfy overclock.

I may just try the GTS-clock OC with the 181.20 DOX provided I can find a suitable environment or laptop cooler just to say I have done it.

I shall try the Dox 181.20 tonight and report back on Dell XPS1530.

For some peeps info I have been running the 185.20 for the last day... awesome driver with great fps in games, just one problem, my temps went through the roof. Uninstalled and went back to my trusty 174.31, temps back to normal.

Says the guy universally supporting a driver Dox decided was not worth modifying...

Just for the record, I know of two other ethusiasts/professionals at my company that will not use 185.20 either.

It's not just me... you are the anomaly.
Grats you that it works, just be aware that I and other long-term professionals and enthusiasts are "passing" on 185.20.

Maybe you really are that special and everyone else in the world is completely clueless... maybe, just maybe other people might have something useful to add.

180.81, 179.26, and 181.20 (and the Dox modded varieties) are fine drivers with positives and negatives.

185.20 is not worth staying with for longer than it takes to sample occlusion IMHO... note I didn't say it isn't worth trying if you don't mind dirver-swapping.

Honestly, I really wish 185.20 was more stable.

Well, I've been using these drivers for a few days now, and I think I am going to roll back to Dox's 180.70 drivers. I installed these 181.20 drivers on balanced, and I keep getting a couple strange visual glitches in left 4 dead (dirty looking textures). The graphic quality of 180.70 was outstanding for me. Performance seems to be about the same for both drivers.
