I have an ASUS g73 best buy version:
    -specs-
    processor: Intel® Core™ i7 1.73GHz
video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
    RAM: 6GB
    Operating System: Windows 7 64bit

I am not using any creative software (I uninstalled what I could and turned off what I could not uninstall).

When I try to install dragon age 2, the menu pops up just fine. But if I try to click on anything in that window my computer immediately freezes with a repetitive sound. From this point it must be hard booted.

I am running direct x 11 and I updated the latest drivers as of a month ago. I have tried ending all unessential background tasks and the problem persists.

I was able to install it in safe mode, but it still freezes when I try to run it in regular mode.

Furthermore, since I began this installation adventure, my computer has frozen a couple of times when I was not trying to install the game. This problem was not happening before.

If anyone has any suggestions on the cause for this please help me out.

I have also tried making an ISO and running it from there same issue .

As i can make an ISO im assuming its not a disc drive thing.

Issue SOrt ofResolved..... THis appears to be a Windows 7 issue.

Microsoft now have a program called XPM it alows you to run XP at the same time as windows 7.

Downloaded and installed this program and installed dragon age in xp rather then 7 and it all works perfect.....

(still get the freeze if i try to install using windows 7)

Ok I INstalled it on the XP version FIne ...
When i go to launch the game i get AVC.dll failed error... I have googled and gone over all the current fixes for this changing and deleting the INI file etc but no go what works for others doesnt work for me.

SO trying to install using windows 7 again..

    Game freezes as per before.

Cannot seem to role back Directx to 9 from 11 which has been hinted on other forums as maybe a issue.

SAFE MODE - Game installs fine in safe mode no issue what so ever for installation.
In safe mode have attempted to launch game, no issues seems to be doing fine untill im required to register online which i cannot access as in safe mode thus not connected to the net, Im assuming that if i could get to the net in safe mode i could play the game maybe in safe mode...

SO you I.T people!!! What is the difference between SAFE MODE and NORMAL as obviously something in normal mode is stopping the game from installing and freezing the pc where as it does not in safe mode.

4 more days before i must return the game for a full refund (7 day money back) so we need this fixed asap.

No point contacting bioware support there is so many issues with this game and different versions of the same issues they have basicly said that the consumers should try and help each other out as they cannot handle it

    OK YAY!!! This worked...

Boot your Laptop/pc in safe mode..

Install the game (it will not freeze your pc in safe mode) and restart your pc (do not launch game).

It seems the game tries to launch it from DragonAge2config.exe, so bypass it starting directly DragonAge2.exe in bin directory.

I actualy ran DragonAge2config.exe first from the BIN file, just to make sure everything was cool then i ran DragonAge2.exe from the BIN file and YAY!! everything works great...!

Thank you SunshineCoasty, this worked for me as well. Clever idea to do the install in safe mode, that never would have occurred to me. In my case it was particularly frustrating, because everything used to work, then all of a sudden I got these freezes. I still can't figure out what changed (I changed a system sound setting, and DL'd the 1.01 patch, but reversing those didn't help).

What's weird is what you note. Running either exe from the /bin directory works fine...but the DAII shortcut in the Win7 Games directory freezes. It's very confusing.

    Thanks again!
