    Surprised there isnt a thread about this yet but Bioware announced this recently i think. Anyway i wasnt a big fan of the first(combat related!) but this has my interest.

    If by being "right in the heart of battle" means no more point and click mmo style gameplay, im sold and sold hard. I hope their is some sort of character creation since you play a guy named Hawke, ive read you can also play as the female version aswell but my memory fails me. Also supposedly the choices you made in the first will effect the world in some way, not sure though. Anyway i gotta go re-read gameinformer about some of this stuff.

    thoughts?

    What do we KNOW so far? Thread from the Bioware Forums

    from one of the dev blogs

    "If you are in or around San Diego, you NEED to come down and experience our booth. Since we are only 4 hours away from opening the doors I think it is now safe to say, if you come down, you will have your first chance to get your hands on and PLAY Dragon Age 2."

    Do work son!

    I liked the first one - but that's me. Doesn't mean I'm not very interested in #2. I am. But I was already ok with the complication level of the combat system.

    Anyway not everyone has to like the same things, but I'm hoping there will be some options to keep the combat system from getting too far away from the first version. That way, option on, you get what you like and, option off, I get more adventures :)

    @Tom: ROFL!

    A very good improvement over the first is that the PC(Hawke, can be either a guy or gal) will be fully voiced! One thing about origins really disappointed me is the PC literally acts like some kind of mute throughout the entire game. Will definitely wait for this to be released.

    I am super excited for this. New streamlined combat while keeping the general gameplay the same will take this game over the top. Hopefully they dont pull a ME2, and completely strip the RPG elements down, although ME2 was an awesome game.

    I am a huge fan of DA but from the pics I saw of the new one ..... is it just me or anyone else thinks that the darkspawn in DA2 look a bit retarded and way worse that the original ????

    I saw the pics your talking about, im quite sure those are pre-alpha console shots. Im sure, in the end, Bioware will smooth out all the textures and effects.

    Looks like it's beyond difficult to make a D&D game with Crysis-like graphics and Bladur's Gate-like everything else :(

    As much as I loved ME2, the ME2 system can't possibly work well with DA2. DA is a straight up RPG, while ME is kinda half and half. It would be terrible to take away the story elements and just do character recruiting/development. It worked for ME, but I don't think it'll work nearly as well for DA.

    I must have missed this. DA:O and ME2 have the same flaw. It's an illusion of RPG.

    RPG to me is making decisions and having choices. In order to progress in any story arc for Dragon Age, YOU HAVE TO DO IT, and there is no alternative method to do it, just one. You can choose any dialogue you want, but the action/story won't progress until you choose that one choice.

    Whatever, it's entertaining, but there are no choices or decisions to be made in either games. As others have hinted, voice acting and various other costs may have dampened triple A title RPG games for a while. Seems if you want RPG, gotta look for the indie gems that continue to be true to RPG and forgo being the cash cow.

    Well...in both games there IS a story, and you have to understand they simply can't give you unlimited freedom: such a game would take too long to develop. And there are different choices in both games, both direct and indirect. For example, take too long to go through the Omega 4 Relay in ME2 and your kidnapped crew will die. Go through the relay without having the necessary defenses, or select the wrong crew members for the special missions, and most of your team won't make it back alive. This will probably affect the storyline somehow in ME3. This happens in DA too: for example, when it comes to dealing with Loghain after defeating him, or with the Desire Demon, or deciding who deals the final blow to the Archdemon if you didn't accept Morrigan's offer.
