So just curious who here plans to get this new expansion for Dragon Age Origins?
Me? No, the reviews are not super great about it, they said yes its good but not as good as the original game, but there is only one simple reason I refuse to get this expansion.
The Price! Its flippin ridiculous to charge $40.00 for an expanison pack to a game when you can buy the full game for less than $40.00 now.
Steam is my preferred method of getting games, the full fledged DAO game is only $33.49 right now, but the expansion is $39.99
What is most upsetting even more so about this is Bioware already had all this content in mind before release of DA:O they purposely held out on it just so they can release and charge you for these expansion packs.
Sorry Bioware I am not gonna bite, and fix the Eyefinity issues for Dragon Age already, no way am I getting an expansion till can fix the game first.

I actually canceled my per-order today, so, yeah, I'm with you when it comes to the price not lining up with the product. Now if I could only get BGII to install properly on my laptop...

I'm having a blast with Dragon Age : Awakening. I've only played for a few hours, and so far everything's looking great.
I guess we're lucky, here in our country, the retail price for Awakening is around 20 USD. -

Yeah $20 is much more reasonable and about where I expect a big expansion to cost. $10 for your average expansions.

actually I love DAO so much that 20$ though it is an extreme for an expansion I will stay pay for it :S

I sure as heck am not.
Plus again bioware has rubbed me wrong with not fixing eyefinity support on dragonage (or even acknowledging the problem) and now they just recently backed out of supporting eyefinity for Mass Effect 2 even though it was listed on ATI's supported games list.
So while I would have not paid $40 from the start, those other matters only make it more difficult for me to invest any more of my money into a company not properly supporting there products. -
Oh, shiz. DA:O:A is out already?
Unfortunately for me, I was a blistering idiot and deleted DA:O - including my savegames - to make space and clean up my desktop. Poor Barax!

i was almost gonna pick it up but decided not to because of the bland reviews. -
I got it, played a couple of hours last night. It's pretty damn good if you ask me...same game with some new abilities and higher levels. So basically, if you want more of the same, then it's worth it.
Which is where the irony of reviews comes in for me. Everyone rated 9, 9.5, 10 (on PC anyway) for the original. Same folks are dropping scores to 8, 8.5 simply because there is nothing "original" or "groundbreaking" in the expansion. If the game was perfect, or near, before, it should be scored as such now IMO. I would understand if we are talking a sequel, two years down the line. Probably failed logic on my part, but amusing nonetheless. -
What if Bioware was awesome like Valve and renamed an expansion as Dragon Age 2, would you buy it? I recall you played L4D2. But if they were to do that, they should charge $50 so they can be awesome like Valve.
Anyways, I have not finished DA:O but if I like it, I plan on getting the expansion also. There just aren't many games out there that peak my interest anyhow.

What if bioware was awesome like valve and gave free expansions and updates to a game almost for 2 years now called Team Fortress 2.
Also LFD2 is a totally new game it uses a new engine, yes its similar to the first, but it also was not $40 for 7 hours of play, and its online based so it can consume a lot more time for your money. -
I'm hearing great things about Awakenings.
Eurogamer gave it a 9/10, and said it's a full 25 hours of content.
I still haven't beat Origins so I can't buy yet, but I will eventually, probably on sale. -
One thing to remember...this is a STAND-ALONE expansion, as in a separate game. There are some elements that tie it to the original game; a few characters, people recognize you as the hero of Fereldan, you CAN import your character, etc...but it is not a continuation of the Original story, per se.
This is unlike Return to Ostagar for example, or some of the smaller add-ins that seemlessly add to or expand the the original (that some folks were pissed because they could/should have been included in the launch). For that reason, I buy off on the heftier fee. Did I pay too much for it? Yeah, probably, but meh, it is what is is. -

Origins is on sale right now on Steam, $43.54 for Digital Deluxe Edition (with all the DLCs), $33.49 for standard edition (with only Dragon Armor & The Stone Prisoner DLCs)
Sale ends at 4 PM PST
Awakening is bit over-priced, at $39.99 -
Given the amount of content, I'd say its worth it.
This is like a 25hr movie you can play any way you want.
Most people pay $6 matinee for only 1-2 hours of a movie that you cannot control.
Not to mention I played the original through multiple times...
Sure, not ground breaking after the original... but this is the kind of game and the kind of company and the kind of "non-DRM" that is worth supporting. -

Point taken
Just wanted to make sure people don't get confused with the term stand alone expansion -
i think what you mean is its a separate/original story.
cha was right to point it out as it may cause confusion for some. -
.... And we would have to wait for 6 years (and counting...) 'till the final episode is released!!
-
DA:O was epic imo, i will definatly get this one
