Can anyone explain to me why bioware's upcomming title has a recommended cpu requirement of a 2.4Ghz quad core cpu but only a 8800 GTS gpu? Jesus this game sounds like it's literally going to rape cpus to death.
I'm probably going to have to end up playing it on the console due to the insain recommended cpu requirement.

Those are very over blown, an average dual core will be more than enough, I think to enjoy some details at the highest settings and resolutions, a quad core may be optimal in *some* cases.
I really cannot see a quad core being *needed*, if a quad core was required, I think there may be problems, but I do think having a high-clocked dual core at least would be beneficial. I dont recall Bioware's games being overly excessive with system requirements, so I wouldnt worry about it.
What GPU is it you have?

Honestly I highly doubt it will be a problem for most computers, looking at the requirements, a very low clocked dual-core and a pretty weak GPU are needed. TBH I do think quad cores are pretty standard for most desktops these days, anyone interested in gaming would be looking towards something like that anyways, and I doubt they were making this game with low-end laptops in minds.
But still I doubt it should be a problem for most laptops with mediocre duals cores and an average GPU. -
Dragon age does not look like it will be a demanding title. I wouldn't really worry about it.

i was looking at the recommended. the bare minimum is pretty nice. But the recommended are quite high as far as cpu goes. And by that alone i'm guessing this is going to be one of those really cpu intesive titles.

Well I'm sure the game's CPU code won't be very much changed from the 360 version, which means it will be multi-core centric in code base design from the get go. GTA4 is a pretty good example of this. A 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU would beat the Xenon CPU in the 360 hand over fist, even with background processes running. However I'm pretty sure that yes, Bioware is being over-bloated about the CPU recommendations. Is Intel their PC CPU technology partner? If so, then I'm not surprised one bit at the recommendation of a quad-core.

Recommended settings are always pretty high. It really depends what they "recommend"; I mean if those specs are for 1920*1200 with 8x AA, then maybe their specs are justified lol
Another thing is that I see Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad system requirements depending on where I look >.> The specs don't seem to be consistent over the net. Both versions mention the 2.4GHz CPU, but it's a different amount of cores. For example, the Bioware forum only posts a Core 2 Duo at 2.4GHz... -
It's Bioware. The only demanding thing from Dragon Age will be your time to read thru the billions of lines in dialog trees.
-
They're just letting you know that the game is fully threaded, not that it's a flat out requirement. One of the devs posted this on the main forum.

Like I said in the other thread, it's Bioware -- unlike most studios, their recommended requirements are what you need to run the game on maximum settings at a high resolution. 95% of the time, the game will look fine even with significantly inferior hardware (I can max out Mass Effect at 1280x800 with my 8600M GT). You don't need a powerful CPU or a powerful GPU to play Dragon Age. -
Well, with the character creator alone, at 1920x1080 all high I am getting over 60fps.
I don't think the final game will be overly demanding.
Dragon Age:Origins System requirements.
