Let me preface this by saying I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT.

I went to the nvidia website and downloaded the latest driver, which just happened to be released today, and after download and extraction it said it could not find a driver for my current hardware. How is that possible? I told the website the precise card I own and it directed me to a particular download.

Any recommendations? I just bought World in conflict (fantastic game BTW) and I have had a couple hiccups and was hoping a new driver could fix some of the performance hiccups.
