    Hi,

I have not upgraded my drivers for my X3100 and I need to know what is the new one, where to get it, and how to install it (do I just install or...)?

    Thanks,

    J

Check out this thread for the meat of the info, and if you feel like wading through it, there's this monstrosity of a thread that has some good information in it too.

Or if you just want the latest drivers, go here and choose your OS from the dropdown menu. I would advise reading the two threads that I posted however.

EDIT: For installing it, I would advise you to remove your current driver from the control panel (Add/Remove Programs in XP or Programs and Features for Vista) before you install the new one. It's a fairly straightforward process.

What would it be called under programs and features?

It's named Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver. You can also uninstall using Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Display Devices-properties and then uninstall driver.

Well, my mistake, its named Display Adapters. When you see the submenu, right click on properties and go to driver tab, then uninstall.

I was assuming you would know how to find the IGP on your device manager even though I made a typo XD.

I uninstalled it, and restarted. When I restarted all the icons were huge, and my laptop automattically started to download a driver, but it was the old one, not the 15.7 . What should I do? Try again?

Also, is it really worth it to update the driver?

Your computer will not automatically find the new 15.7 driver. You have to have it already. If you didn't manually install a new driver after uninstalling the old, go ahead and just run the program you downloaded from Intel. The icons were huge because the default driver when Vista can't find one sets your resolution to... I believe 800x600, but that could be wrong. Either way, it's substantially lower than your normal resolution.

As to whether or not it's worth it or not, it depends on what you aim to do with your laptop. The two threads I posted should give you some incite on whether or not you should update. For what it's worth, I'm running the newest drivers on both my XP and Vista partitions, but I only do any gaming on my XP partition.

So... I have to install 15.7, and then uninstall the old one?

No, uninstall your old ones, restart, then open the driver installer you downloaded from Intel, then restart again, simple.

What do you mean in Safe Mode. And when I try that, my laptop automattically installs the old ones...

Thats why he said in Safe Mode. Normally after restart Windows reinstalls the old driver. So... When booting, before keep pressing F8 until you see a list of options, one of them being Safe Mode, choose that one and then press Enter. It will boot Windows in Safe Mode, and then you can install the driver, afterwards restart and it will boot into Normal Mode (means your regular Windows).
