    Hello,

I have ordered a W7J for myself... and am currently downloading all these programs/anti-virus softwares, etc etc, that i will need to install on my W7J when it arrives for tweaking purposes, etc etc.

I have heard ALOT of talk about OMEGA drivers, for the ATI type cards. Supposedly they boost GPU power on ATI cards.

I know the 7400Go on the W7J is hardly a "gaming" card... but i figure every little bit helps, and had 2 questions:

    1) Are there any specific drivers that are "good" or "recommended" for 7400Go type cards? (NVidia)... since OMEGA drivers seem to be ATI only.

    2) will getting drivers that improve the GPU's performance hog batterylife? or will they be very little change since the changes in configuration are programming based, and not actual power based.

    thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the tip on the laptopvideotogo drivers, Chaz!

Just installed 91.33, o/c'd to 514Mhz/1.03GHz, and got my 3DMark06 score up to 952! Woohoo!

    You're a rock star!

Thats what you overclocked your 7400 to Hokka? How much of a performance/heat increase did you see with those speeds?

Haven't really done any real world performance tests or heat readings, but defo doesn't seem to make the 1210 much hotter than it already is. As far as battery life goes, on a full charge it seems like it took off about 30 min.

Stock settings prior to installation of the new drivers and NVTweak were 450Mhz/950Mhz, which gave me a 3DMark06 score in the neighborhood of 860-870 (can't remember exactly off the top of my head), so I'm defo pleased w/ the increase. Also, a few things should be noted:

    1) Overclocking was done via the nVidia control panel, with the first # as the "core clock frequency" and the 2nd # as the "memory clock frequency". After going through about 3 or 4 EULA pop-up windows agreeing not to sue nVidia if you screw the pooch on your system, you'll get to the clock frequency window. There's a button there that says something to the extent of "Find the best settings for my system" (it's all in Japanese on my system, but this is roughly what it says). I clicked it, and about 30 seconds later the 514/1.03 settings came up.
    2) I ran the "find the best settings" thingy again just a few minutes ago, and it popped up with 518MHz/1.04GHz this time! Dunno if this is due to not as many processes resident in memory or what, but interesting, nonetheless!

I got the 4-year complete care package with this little beast, so next stop 1000 or bust! ;)

If you ruin your computer by overclocking it voids your warranty. I think that goes for the accadental too, since overclocking isnt an accadent. Just be careful hokka, you dont want to ruin it.

I wonder if I set my card to the speeds you did and get that performance driver, If I would get 1000, since I have higher specs (CPU and RAM), Ill have to do it tomorrow when I get mine, Ill be posting numbers late tomorrow night to see if its so. Be sure to let us know if you do reach 1000 Hokka.

Ok so I finally got my 1210, im using ti right now in fact. Its very very nice, I absolutly love it. Camera and display are extreamly good. But this thread isnt about that, its about drivers, and I said I would post my 3D Marks once I got em.

Im using a laptopvideo2go performance 91.33 driver and no overclocking yet. I ran 2 tests of Mark 05 and 2 of 06. First score in 05 was a dissapointing 1614. I then ran an 06 and got a total of 862, SM2.0:321, HDR/SM3.0:284, CPU:1732. It seemed kinda fishy that I got that high on 06, but that low on 05, so I ran another. My second 05 test gave me a score of 2103, that sounded about right. I ran a second 06 and got 866 with some minor differences in the CPU and HDR/SM3.0 scores from the previous test. Ive only played HL2 for about 15 minutes on it, and it ran seamlessly. Next im going to install HL2: EP1 and then Oblivion for the big test.

ok i just loaded the 91.33 driver (with the moded inf) as said by the link.

now after windows loads it just crashes, blue screen of death, specifically pointing out that driver has some kinda problem. i think the crash happens right when nvidia tray loads as part of start up or something.

I tried going into safe mode windows to change the driver... but for some reason safe mode freezes after i put in the password to log in under my name for windows...

wut am i gonna do to fix this? dont wanna format. just got my w7j today and just FINALLY got everything installed and running...

edit: safe mode worked on the 4th try -_-, reverted driver. not gonna try this again XD

The 91.33's are beta; use the 91.31's if anything. That was a pretty close call there.

Chaz, what driver version are you using?

On that website it says 84.25 is recommended for general use, will that incur a significant performace penalty if those driver are used instead of 91.33?

How much of a difference does it make to have the latest drivers? Im kinda thinking instead of blue screening my laptop i should stick to the stock 82.93 that came with my laptop.

You know what they say, if it aint broke....

I'm using the 83.90 stock drivers right now - only reason I installed the 91.31's was so I could run 3DMark06. I found gaming performance with both drivers to be equal - the 3DMark05 score only differed by ten points between them.

Generally, you aren't going to get a signifigant boost from installing the latest drivers. The 84.xx drivers are very good, and I would say keep them.
