I've been taking a look at what DX10 games require, and I saw the frame rate with DX10 on an actual computer with an 8800GTX. It was running the game at 20 FPS, while using DX9c it was running 60fps. With 2X 8600M GT in a laptop, would that be able to even THINK about running a DX10 game using DX10? BTW the resolution of the screen was only 1280x720...

Some games don't like SLI configurations according to gamespot's hardware guides. However downloading and installing the latest patches from Nvidia or the game developer can solve the low fps problems because of an SLI configuration.

If a game has no issues against SLI 8600 GT SLI configuration will perform quite well at 1280x720 DX10 mode. It won't be as good as the desktop 8800GTX but it is one of the best DX10 compatible SLI setups for laptops right now.

It all depends on the game. As dx10 matures, it is supposed to be more efficient than dx9.

Yes, dx10 is meant to be faster than dx9. Which mean, a a game running at dx10 are suppose to be higher frame rate than it running at dx9.

However, as Lithus mentioned, most of the dx10 game, especially those which enable dx10 through patches are still consider as immature.

So you might want to wait for some bigger games that said to be truly optimized for dx10 to release before judging dx10.

For games that have native SLI support, two 8600M-GT's will do very well, better than a single 8700M-GT. For games that don't have native support, you'll have to create a custom profile (which can have mixed results) and you probably won't see as good of a performance as with a single 8700M-GT.

In terms of DX10, an SLI 8600M-GT setup should be plenty powerful enough for the extra eye-candy to kick in, especially if you play at lower resolutions like 1280x800.
