Hi all, sorry if I sound a bit dumb but basically I was just wondering if a dual GPU set up is just 2 single cards with a crossfire connector? I am looking to buy a card for my M15X but it says it is a dual card.

if you have the 5870 in the 15X you already have the biggest you can get. but in the 17X as well as some of the clevo machines etc you have 2 physical MXM GPU cards installed with a crossfire or SLI cable between them the difference between them is they have different Vbios in them one master one slave ( or parent/child )

No it's not an upgrade. I had a bad flash on mine but it should work for someone with a dual set up because they can reflash it so I'm going to sell mine cheap and get a new one. So basically it will fit in my system though, phisically it's just a single GPU right? Also if it is a slave it won't boot?

depends on the machine, the R2 will boot off the intel IGP so you can flash either card. but in older machines yes you cant see your boot if its a slave flash.

Well I would be running it on a M15X R2 (newest model M15X) so if your correct it should boot. However doesn't that mean it should boot now?
