Getting Duke Nukem Forever for 5 bucks (Free with coupon) is totally worth it.
The sale is on the Mac Download version but you need Steam anyways.

I preordered mine from Steam and i have enjoyed every second of the game.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. It's not a game of the year, and it doesn't change the gaming industry...but really, if you were expecting that from a Duke Nukem game, you're doing it wrong.

And I still don't understand where all its hype (about the old DN) came from ...

At the time in the late 1980's when DN was first around, people thought it was so good because of the vulgarity and macho of DN was justified as cool and revolutionary from the norms of society. However as time went on though, the antics of DN soon were getting old and now-a-days are just too archaic and un-cool so to speak. Therefore all the hype about the DN series was all from the generation of gamers that grew up around DN and want to relive the nostalgia. However for the current generation of gamers, DN is old, cliched and in a sense, too vulgar in tastes.

Therefore, it is not surprising to me that many current gamers are too amazed or interested in DN at all. However, DN will still be in gaming history for what it did back in its time and for the people who grew up with it.

I should mentioned I played only DN3D (1996) and my commentaries are based on that game. The original DN was released in 1991. While certainly DN3D was:
+ a rebel of its time (like you mentioned macho, vulgar, b#$bs),
+ the first FPS (to my knowledge) to use several floors (contrary to a single floor with some stairs here and there), and
+ added a nice different weapon (the shrink weapon)
... it was still at best an average FPS trying to imitate a B-movie (starring Stallone, Schwarzenegger, or your favorite B-movie hero). So IMO DN3D was more like a shiny footnote of the early FPS age rather than the hyped game apparently everyone played or heard of.

In regard to the cliche, I do believe the original was less cliched than DNF (or otherwise said: the very first level of DNF had more cliche than the whole DN3D).

DNF is not that bad. It's no worse than and in many respects better than most of the drivel released today. It's definitely worth $10.

the reason everyone bashing the DNF because it is too linar and lacks the DN basics comparing to DN classics! I never played classic DN games but kinda understand them! for instace there's no "secret places" in the forever version, so there's very little to no replay value in DNF!

well, the game is free! so who cares? just purchased mine :)

DN3D was a proper old school shooter, hidden items, proper map design.

Single player was good, multiplayer was epic.

Well I thought Duke Nukem Forever was pretty great. Not amazing or anything but a great FPS. Plenty of content was gutted from the final release and there are parts that shouldn't belong but I enjoyed it even moreso than other recent shooters I've played. It was fun to me and that's all that matters. I read all the negative reviews prior to installing and playing the game and got worried for a minute. Once I started the game and played for a good half hour to an hour I've forgotten about all the bad rep the game received.

You could have gotten it for free on Amazon with a 5 bucks off coupon on the digital Mac version, and activate it on Steam.

The DLC pack for DNF was really well made, feels like they put more work into it than the main part.
