Just a little FYI that I am getting this game and looking forward to it.
I love tower defense genre, and I like devs willing to try a new twist on the genre like Sanctum did with its First Person Shooter TD.
Now we have an Action RPG TD called Dungeon Defenders.
Just watching the videos and looking at screenshots didn't really expose how deep this game goes but I found these developer diary videos that I think does a much better job at explaining the possibilities this game has.

All in all its pretty inexpensive and its a indie game so its nice to support up and coming devs. I think this is a very potential NBR 4-Pack if we find others interested and want to try to play together.

Wow, this game looks amazing. Will definately try it out when it comes out XD
-
I was interested in this game when I first heard about it a year ago, then it just kept getting delayed and I lost interest. I'm on the fence about it right now, it does look interesting and fun so I may get it.
-
I was also discouraged by the release date being pushed back over and over. However, for a $13 something game I think it's worth it to try at least.

WAY TOO MANY devs are releasing games that are almost like a beta these days (looking at you Dead Island) and after they have your money its too late. -
It got pushed back because in order for them to release it on the xbox, it had to be a simultaneous release so the finished PC version got pushed back because of the xbox version certification took forever.
-
. I'm already impressed by how much they've put into it, and how they are still able to charge a quarter of most mainstream game prices. I'll probably be looking for a team, so let me know if you need another teammate =).

I'm almost 100% positive this is a game on android is it not?
-
-
This game looks like it's based on Torchlight's engine. Even in-game fonts are the same...
-
Game looks cool, but I'm assuming it'll require some sort of online activation or an online download?
-
I bought it on Android and im not exacly thrilled about the game.
Then they made it free. -

Last Dev video came out today, shows off some of the game modes.
I like the idea of "strategy only" where you do not get to fight the mobs with your character and must rely completely on your towers.
Help give some of that authentic TD gameplay, however I think it will rely much more on proper tower choice and management more so than mazing. Should be fun at any rate. -
Really cool, thanks for the thread, didn't see it until today.

Yep, here is that last video

I plan to sink a good amount of time into this game when it comes out tomorrow so I can see if its as good as it sounds.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I read a review recently that says this game is almost impossibly difficult to play solo, so if you want to play this game on any difficult above easy, you want to make sure you have a group of people to play with.
-
I really like the modes Pure Strategy and the Survival mode. I am also interested if there will be mod support because I feel like a game like this would be awesome if the community could make their own maps and towers.

and if you could solo HARD+ then what would be the point of a party.
Having enemies scale to more party members is nice and all but most games that try it fail at some level. The last TD game I liked Sancum was like this it got super hard with more people so you had no advantage at all to having extra people and it only got harder than solo.
The review may not be correct though they maybe just had no idea how to play well this game will allow strategy to beat pure skill in combat. -
Yeah, maybe the review was wrong. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

What review did you see anyways I would like to check it out.

How many of you are getting this right away tomorrow?

Hm I'm wondering, how does the matchmaking work? -

Just pre-ordered it. I watched the TotalBiscuit 70-minute impressions and found that it reminded me of both Torchlight and Borderlands, so I caved.

I watched the first 30min of TB's thing I didnt like it a whole lot in how he presented it. It was more like he was being led around by the tail by the devs and he was clueless on what to do.
Then again I feel TB is over rated anyways.
I went and did a 30 minute introduction to the game to explain and show off game mechanics. I didnt realize I had my cold sneaking up on me till half way into the cast when I didnt want to interrupt recording :/
A few things to note:
I see how the game can be impossible to play solo. I think its very character driven. With the apprentice I was able to beat several stages without a sweat. With the huntress I got PwNED by the final wave of the first stage. So if your not smart and using multiple hero's when playing solo it can be a major issue.
Also the DLC is interesting in that you cant use it right away. The portal gun is lvl 20 and the TF2 pets are lvl 25 items so you have to lvl up till you can use them.
Soon as I get a chance to remote into my desktop later I can upload the encoded video. I should name it WTH is Dungeon Defenders -
Wait, what? You are already playing the game?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah, I am a reviewer just like TB and all the other sites. So I got access to the game for review purposes.
Still I didnt play as much as I would like with work in the way. Really like the game so far on first impressions.
I need to explore multiplayer and late game content to give a nice well rounded review though. -
Eh the first half of TB's commentary bored me as well, but the last quarter of the whole thing reeled me in because of how hectic it became, really reminded me of Magicka for some reason.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Game reminded me of Magicka as well from just watching the dev videos lots of chaos with heavy emphasis on multiplayer.
I think this game should be evenly popular to Magicka if not more so because I think it has a lot more replay value given you can lvl multiple heros (more to come) choose your stats, and find loot, change strategy etc.
The local co-op is a feature not seen in a long time for a PC title as well especially so the local coop + online option.

What you save to your bank or have left over at the end of the stage is basically used as money.
When you go to the tavern you can buy items from the bartender. From a forge you can upgrade equipment. Both of these will consume mana (money) -
Can't wait for it to get unlocked tomorrow! We need more people in to have solid 4-p games.
By the way, the Portal Gun and pocket TF2 classes aren't pre-order exclusive? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Pretty sure its anybody with Steam that gets them no time limit on having to be part of the pre-order.
But yeah mana = money
use it to build towers, upgrade them, repair them, its also used to activate your hero skills.
Its capped on your character as to how much you can hold and that amount goes up with each level you gain, but what ever you deposit in the bank or get for selling items you use for the non-combat associated stuff. -
It's available to download on steam now.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah Direct2Drive released early, so they wanted to see if they could get Steam to release it early as well.
Talk about a Christmas Miracle! to actually get somebody to open the gates earlier @ Valve.
Been at work all night so not able to play, then have a dentist appointment right after work. Grrrr by the time I get home not sure if I am sleeping or staying up. -
I'm a little bummed that there, in fact, weren't any pre-order bonuses.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Those pre-order bonus's are a bit deceiving on a lot of games. Too many times you get a game thinking you get some awesome exclusive item just to find out that everybody in the game gets it you just get it like 3 levels earlier without unlocking it first.
That or it is exclusive and its 100% totally useless junk.
I think this is the better balance that everybody on steam gets it, so everybody can enjoy them. Being that items can be traded its not like not everybody could get it anyways.
Your pre-order bonus is you get to play right away and saved a few $$$ -
So what online mode does everyone plan on playing? Ranked or open?
-
Arugh it keeps disconnecting me; I'm having some great games but more often than not we get disconnected by the server before the round finishes... Can't get past the second level because of this.
I'm playing on Ranked. I mean, that's the way to go lol.
Edit: ok Ranked game with friends is easy to make; just make a private game, then invite friends in Esc menu. -
Great video Vicious. I don't have anything to play until Skyrim, GW2, and MW3 so I might give it a shot this weekend.
-
Anyone get the 4 pack?

Id make a big deal of it but I almost expect problems from games these days @ launch.
Having problems is not a big deal to me its just fixing them quickly that is important.
Sounds like they are right on it. -
Started playing earlier and next thing I know, it's 5:00 am.
It's been a while that a game could really pull me in so effectively. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Looks like 2 patches already, they fixed the no mouse invert complaint I had already, and have patched for disconects (though some still having problems I guess)
I think part of the DC issue is just because the game EXPLODED with popularity was #2 on steam with like 17K players on at once. Poor indie servers just were not ready for that. I played tonight and connected to the ranked network right away and no DC's
Another problem I saw reported was no sound with 7.1 surround headphones (like the Logitech G35) that has already been fixed.
Games like Dead Island have the same issue and have been out for months with no fix! (so mad at dead island devs they suck)
So this is the kind of support that I like to see and really support the team when they can provide that kind of service.
Game still needs work with balancing and stuff but pretty much all the main concerns for balance and tweaking seem to be getting notice from the devs and they plan to do something about it.
It took quite a while for Magicka to get patched to a playable state, going by that experience I say Trendy Entertainment is doing a better job and fixing things faster.
Oh the other big prob I have was losing my characters. I think its due to how the game saves, always go to main menu before you quit. I think if you quit from in game (maybe even tavern) it wont save.
If you DC on a ranked server I think it can cause loss of data too so that would suck.
So not going to say the game is perfect, but it is very enjoyable esp for like $10 -
