On Tuesday, September 1st, EA will release patch 1.5 for BF2. The patch will include a new map and a range of fixes and improvements for BF2. But wait, it will also included the two booster packs (Euro Force and Armored Fury) for FREE!!! This is a truly epic move on EA's part and will certainly boost the number of players!

    Proof of Awesome!

    Finally, about time. Thanks.

Maybe with the free booster packs, more players will come back and play. Great news.

I never stopped playing! Do I have to dust myself off too!?

    My favorite changes:

    - ***ADDED WIDESCREEN SUPPORT*** It's about friggin' time!
    - All previously extra add-on maps now included for free. I bought them but hardly anyone played them because it seems nobody wanted to buy them.
    - Use more than 2GB RAM if available (yay!)
    - AA more accurate
    - Going prone reduces accuracy temporarily (dolphin diving)
    - Going prone you can avoid claymores (about time! And I'm a sniper)

Sweet! Hey when that day comes anyone from NBR interested in playing a few rounds? Maybe with an "NBR" clan tag XD, so what ya say? I'll start a thread and maybe start an unranked server or find a decent ranked server we can all get on.

This topic has already been discussed here before, but with BF3 recently announced by EA, I'm not sure if the patch for BF2 is going to do that much to get people to start playing the game again. In any case, I feel that BF2 is a flawed game with too many game mechanics that are broken and/or need to be adjusted to make gameplay more balanced. And quite frankly, patch 1.5 isn't that fix.

Well you can start an unranked server yourself, or a LAN game, but if you want to have a ranked server you need to pay a fee.

Actually, EA officially announced today the release of 1.5 with the two booster packs, it was just speculation before.

BF2 is not horrible flawed! It has it's small problems that can get annoying at times, but they don't stop you from having a good time. Gameplay is quite balanced minus the whole J-10 vs. F-35 issue which will now be fixed, everything else is a-ok. Maybe you should try BF2 again.

Alright ummm you know I have a couple computers that are just sitting here 24/7 and not doing that much, I'm thinking maybe for this I could setup an unranked dedicated server for NBR members? I haven't done a dedicated server yet (I'm sure BF2 has one, haven't check for sure though) so I'd like to give this a go. I'll wait until it's released so I don't have to worry about downloading a bunch of different patches. Hrmm gotta check if there's a linux dedicated server (pretty sure there is).

Its about time they fixed many of the issues. Why did it have to take them so long to optimized this game. Which in the past BF2 horrible optimization annoyed the hell out of me. Well if this new patch is any good maybe ill come out of retirement from BF2 and join ya guys.

First of all, just because a sequel is announced doesn't stop people from playing the existing game. I don't understand that one.

Also, BF2 has it's quirks, but if you learn to live with them and adapt. I just want to promote one more time before BF3 comes out. With as little as I've had time to play lately not sure if that will happen

Wow! I'm glad EA finally included the 2 free booster packs! I originally got them through the Complete Collection DVD with CD Keys for each but for some stupid reason it required you to register with EA in some site in order to activate the booster packs but that site was taken down ages ago :(

BF2 is well optimized...as long as you have 2GB+ RAM on XP or 3GB+ on Vista! :)

BF2 since it's release in 2005 has had a major following and is still played by thousands on a daily basis. BF2142 came out after and failed to even get to close to the grandeur of BF2, even today, many more people play BF2 rather than BF2142 (which is a fine game, much more refined than BF2).

Too bad I just started college which means I won't be able to get much playing time on weekdays, but maybe during the weekend! And as far as I know, the only way to get a dedicated and ranked server for BF2 is to get it via a service provider (EA get's a nice little fee from BF2 server rentals).

Come on guys, Battlfield 2 only costs $10. Especially with the add-on packs included in 1.5 patch, not a bad buy at all even if you have to buy it again. I wouldn't be surprised though if EA released a 1.5 version for $20 instead of $10 saying the other stuff is free. lol.

It might. When the 7 Beta first came out I installed and tried to run BF2 and 2142 it would CTD. I tried to troubleshoot and eventually sent PB an email. The reply I got was that PB was not compatible with 7, and they would not work on an update for this until its release. I do not know if they have changed this or not, but you may want to email them to see if they have since changed their minds.

I thought I was the only one who did that. I enjoy the more arcadey style of the game in the earlier versions of BF2 so I keep both the demo and patched game installed, good stuff.

Well I use widescreen with proper aspect too! But it wasn't officially supported or implemented. This fix is supported by PunkBuster though so no worries about getting booted because of it.

The command line just stretches the 4:3 image across the display.

Are you using RC or RTM? Apparently PunkBuster won't pony up to "beta" OS's and RC is considered Beta (well, to them at least). I've had no issues so far with Win 7 Pro RTM. Either way, did you download latest PunkBuster?

RTM legit key, but pointed the BF2 installation to the XP partition of my dual boot so i can play on both OS's using up one installation to save space. It worked for all my other games

    Re-installing now to W7 partition. 5cd install discs :(
