The Netherlands Gaming Authority just published a study it did of 10 video games that reward players with loot boxes, packages players can sometimes buy with real money that contain random in-game rewards, and found that 4 of the 10 games it studied violated the Dutch Gaming Act.
It determined that loot boxes are, in general, addictive and that four of the games allowed players to trade items they’d won outside of the game, which means they’ve got a market value.

Doesnt matter, nothing will change without widespread public support.
Not sure what the general opinion is in that region but the U.S. is more than ok with it.killkenny1 and Vistar Shook like this. -

Well, around the world there might be some regulation coming. Korea was the first to fine game developers for loot boxes.
Nexon Korea was slapped with a 939 million won penalty and a 5.5 million won fine, the biggest among the three, while Netmarble received a 45 million won penalty and 15 million won fine. NextFloor, the maker of “Destiny Child,” received a fine of 5 million won. All three firms were ordered to correct their practices as well.

EA has been waging war on logic and friendly consumer practices for a while. Not surprised at their recent activity of late.

Whatever happened to people being responsible for their own actions? -to include parents actually parenting and not letting their kids go crazy with their credit card on the PS4 or iPhone?
I'd like to personally thank everyone who bought these loot boxes over the years. Thanks to you, instead of developers actually having to craft a game with an interesting story or compelling gameplay we get crap like Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Metal Gear: Survive.OverTallman, Vistar Shook, krabman and 1 other person like this. -
That, sir, was some quality sarcasm; well done. lol
Edit... I was going to add, I wont buy a game with loot boxes. Nor will I buy a game that isn't fully complete: Having day one downloadable content that is required to actually have a full game after I already bought the full game is going to be a skip. This policy has cost me nothing because their are plenty of good games from people who think I'm a customer rather than a thing to be abused to the limit of the law.Last edited: Sep 13, 2018hfm and Ratio Tile like this.
