Instead of making hundreds of threads for individual games, I think we could talk about the Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo/Ubisoft/EA/Activision press conferences, here along with newly announced games and other things.
So far, what really has peaked my interest;
Metal Gear Solid Rising: Metal Gear Solid: Rising Video Game, E3 2010: Debut Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < I am a total sucker for Metal Gear Solid. Part 3 and 4, are bloody masterpieces! I love them so much.
This game is a spin off to the series, and stars a character from two of the games, called Raiden. Stealth seems to be less of an element in this game, as it moves towards a sword slashing style of gameplay. There is still invisible cloaking, and it seems that it has taken a more sci-fi turn. Raiden is more like a cyborg ninja than a regular person right now. It looks pretty cool with the mechanic to be able to decide, exactly how you want to slice. I love the precision of it. I just hope the controls are intuitive. If it comes out for PC, I think the Mouse as an input device would be a great way to nail down the accuracy of a direct sword slash.
Assassins Creed Brotherhood: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Video Game, E3 2010: Live Demo (Stream) HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < I think there will be lots of PC haters after the whole DRM thing, but I must say that this looks great.
I think anyone who has ever been to Rome will agree with me, that it would be the ultimate location for a game based on a real life historical city(in my opinion, at least)! This one seems to continue the story from AC2, but also introducing other assassins. And multiplayer, but we don't know how that will be!
I think it's going to be hard to make multiplayer work. The way you fight enemies in single player, are almost all instant kill, using counters and one attack button. How would that work online?
Ghost Recon: Future Solider: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Video Game, E3 2010: Live Demo Part II (Stream) HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Lame sort of sub title, it's good to see the old strategy shooter being back. It does not look like it has changed that much from Rainbow Six Vegas and Advanced Warfighter, that came before it. It has potential.
Halo Reach: Halo: Reach Video Game, E3 2010: Campaign Gameplay (Stream) HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Halo has not been able to impress with tech and new features for years, but Bungies solid foundation for building a great core game, is uniqe. The music and vibrant art, makes it still stand out. That might be sad, depending on your preferences. With Bungie being independant again, there is a good chance that this title might end up on PC and Mac as well! Microsoft owns the Halo brand, but Bungie belongs to itself, again!
It's actually amazing that MS allowed them to become independant after saving their butt, when they had to close the studio. Say what you want about Microsoft, they are not the all evil beings they are made out to be.
Bulletstorm: Bulletstorm Video Game, E3 2010: Campaign Gameplay HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Made by Epic. It looks like someone took Painkiller, mixed it with Serious Sam, and further went amonk with the saturation. It builds on an idea that you get points for "awesome" kills. It looks like a fairly standard first person shooter with a kick button akin to the one in Duke Nukem Forever(RIP). The score system reminds of the qurikly little third person shooter that came out a few years ago, The Club!
New Xbox 360 design; Xbox 360 Video Game, E3 2010: The New Xbox 360 Featurette HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < It was dubbed the 360 slim by the media, as people expected an improved xbox 360. It's a no-brainer that Microsoft wants to seperate themselfs from RROD and high failure rate of some of the early xbox 360. With a rebranding and repackage of the machine, they will be able to do just that.
This new design looks like a weird PC gamer case, with weird proportions. It's not really that much smaller. They make a big deal out of it having wireless(which it should have had from the beginning IMO!), HDMI, 5 usb ports, and it's supposedly completely silent.
A even smaller footprint would have been desired, and I am not sure what I think about the weird curves on it. The fact that it does not have a lower price point is strange, but smart.
Microsoft are saving the price war for when they really need it. Not the biggest upgrade, but it should be okay if someone is looking for a 360. The 250 GB harddrive is nice, but again, it's a damn shame that they unlike the ps3, don't support a standard 2,5'' HDD. Particularly for us Laptoppers who probably have spare at home. MS system specific hard drives are very expenssive.![]()
Child of Eden - Child of Eden Video Game | Reviews, Trailers & Interviews | GameTrailers.com < A new game that makes me think of Rez and Flow and other quirky type games. The lightshow at the end reminds me of something out of a Jeff Minter game, but I doubt this will be like Tempest 2000!
Hydro Thunder: Hydro Thunder: Hurricane Video Game, E3 2010: Wet-N-Wild Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < When Wave Race 64 came out for the N64 in 1996-1997, it made a revolution due to it's use of Water. Water physics had never been seen before, and the fact that there was real Waves, was incredible and set a benchmark for the art of making digital water. Since then there has been racing games using water like Diddy Kong Racing, and of course the original Hydro Thunder. A Midway title, that despite looking generic was a strangely addicting and fun game. Released for Dreamcast and N64, it was a bright and charming game, despite not being that arcadey or that realistic, but a soft mix. Microsoft tried to make a game similiar to it, when the first Xbox was launched in 2001. The game was called Blood Wake and was funnyily enough, Bill Gates favorite game. It was funny because it sucked;D
Kinect - Your Shape: Fitness Evolved Video Game, E3 2010: Ubisoft Live Demo (Stream) HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Kinect is the new name for Project Natal. Microsoft's Eyetoy-like based motion control, to counter the casual success that Wii has had with it's waggle remote.
Only two Kinect games really looked interesting to me. Your Shape, which looks more like a serious attempt at making workout fun, but I still have my reservations and doubt about the seriousness of it. It's martial arts mode sounds fun, but is probably shallows. Though something like that, would have the potential to burn the calories of fat gamers in a fun way. The other interesting Kinect game was Kinectimals... A evolution of Nintendogs. A tamagotchi based game, where you can play with cute little animals. The demo was quite cute; Kinectimals Video Game, E3 2010: Debut Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com
Devils Third: Devil's Third Video Game, E3 2010: Exclusive Debut Trailer | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Itagaki is a rock star in gaming. Nearing the end of Ninja Gaiden 2's development, he rebelled against Tecmo, accusing the CEO of being a and not giving him and his team at Team Ninja their just and fair part. Consecutively, he was accused for sexual harrasment against a female employee at the company. How he is back with Valhalla games. The same guys who made Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden. This trailer shows a bit of footage from multiplayer, of two random characters going at it.
While it looks like a devil amy cry action game using both swords and guns, Itagaki claims that there will be more to it, and that it will seperate it from those types of games. It's about 10% done according to him, so we will have to see what happens. The game is supposed to have a heavy multiplayer focus as well.
Comic Jumper: Comic Jumper: The Adventures Of Captain Smiley Video Game, E3 2010: Gameplay Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < This looks hilarious, and I can't wait for it. I really think this will be a VERY fun game![]()
Fallout: New Vegas: Fallout: New Vegas Video Game, E3 2010: Exclusive Gameplay Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < I didnt play Fallout 3, so I cant say about how much of an improvement this looks like.
Nail'd: Nail'd Video Game, E3 2010: Exclusive Get Dirty Gameplay HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < A racing game... Similiar to Blur?
Xbox live arcade montage; Xbox Live Arcade Video Game, E3 2010: Upcoming Releases Montage Trailer HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com < Some decently wicked games in there.
Have you seen anything interesting from this years e3 yet?

Brotherhood looks amazing, I really can't wait. It's a shame that the god awful DRM is still gonna be in place, but there's always ways around those things

Nintendo is on the stage. I am not seeing anything worthwhile. Maybe it's just me.

People are already complaining over the new Xbox. I didn't know anyone moved their consoles, when a game was playing. Hilarious stupid whining, IMO; E3 10: New Xbox, same old disc destroying problems- Destructoid

Nintendo 3DS Games Announced [Updated] - Shacknews - PC Games, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii video game news, previews and downloads
Annd the winner is... Nintendo! -
Excited for 3DS, zelda, and GT5! But seeing what they show for crysis 2 I was disappointed.
-
1) If you think Kinect is "Wii without a wiimote! *Does anyone care?*" why do you then list it as a bad point that Gears and Halo don't have the support for it? Can't you see the contradiction in this? You ask if anyone cares, and then you immediately afterwards complain about it's lack of support!
2) Time Exclusive DLC, for a title like Call of Duty Black Ops is a big deal. The previous one has sold over 20 Million Copies. It's the biggest of it's kind in entertainment history. Millions of people are following the franchise.
It's the exact same thing, for Sony's conference with the exclusive announcements of Missions and a Beta test for Assassins Creed Brotherhood. How is this news? It's obvious - It is news because nobody knows about it! The better question would be; "Does anyone care?". After the failure of the GTA Episodes, I am not sure, but I don't think it hurts.
3) The Star Wars Kinect game looked very embarrasing. Particularly when up against Force Unleashed 2 and SWTOR! It looked very much like it was pre recorded and a actor was pretending to be in control of the game. The Jedis movements does not follow the character at all.
4) Kinect as a whole, looked better than I thought. Move looked more functional and practical as a gaming device, where Kinect seemed to have Input lag, awkward control mechanics and such. But I think Kinect had somehow, more interesting software, even though everything look sort of shallow, except for Sorcery that was kinda cool.
5) Halo Reach was by far the most powerful demonstration of those that I have seen. Very impressive stuff. Even with the outdated graphics, the Art Style, Music at atmosphere made it second to none. Killzone, Crysis and Call of Duty could not keep up with their standard War shagon. I was much more moved by this Space Opera than the other shooters.
6) I was surprised by the lack of showing of games like Devil's Third(Itagaki), Crackdown 2 and such!
7) I think Sony showed a lot of good stuff, but they didn't show the one thing that XBox 360 doesn't have. And that was The Last Guardian! And no FFXIII Versus either. Very dissapointing to not see those two. I think the rest of the stuff was okay, but nothing I just really wanted to play. Infamous 2 was fine, as was LittleBigPlanet, but I didn't see the idea overall.
8) I think it's great that Sony is sticking to their 3D Vision and their PSP Re branding. The campaign with the Marcus campaign was funny. Butler was funny.
9) I loved the dirty tricks Microsoft and Sony had. Microsoft that gave everyone free 360s, and Sony who had invited 150 Playstation fans to sit in the audience and clap and cheer. Lol.
10) MGS Rising and Assassins Creed Brotherhood looks wonderful. I really can't wait for these. Fable 3 and Gears of War 3 was okay, but like LBP and Infamous 2 they looked like more of the same. Fan stuff for fans, which is great if you are a fan!
11) Comic Jumper looks absolutely hilarious. That game is going to be lol lol lol!
12)I Kinect is to expenssive and to gimmicky. Move is priced more reasonable but still a gimmick. I dont think they can take on Wii. The consumers have already choosen. Doing the same thing as them, won't get them millions of people to jump on them.
The fact that MS and Sony have not gone into price war is interesting. They really do think long term and both of them acknowledge that the price cuts needs to be saved for strategic times. -
I don't get the new 360 - what's the bloody point?
I mean, there are a few advantages that are useful for anyone in the market for a new one, but why now? The technology and engineering prowess has been in Microsquishy's hands for years. They could've done a quick update with all the same improvements a few months after the original 360's release.
Okay, it's obviously just a quick cash-in (and my question above is obviously rhetorical) on the gamers who maybe don't have a 360 or, more specifically, don't have one of the current-gen gaming consoles. There are gonna be a lot of them now, as we're fast approaching the 5 year mark of the 360's original release. College freshmen who played 360 with their roommates are now graduating and moving away, high schoolers are now in college, and couples who were brought together through the magic of cooperative Halo gaming are now getting divorced. So the market of console-less gamers is obviously at a high point. Lots of folks are gonna say, "well, I was looking for a gaming console anyway..." and grab one up.
But the important question everyone should be asking is, when's the next generation? And no, Kinect ain't it. Just as Nintendo dropped out of the console gaming market after the Game Cube. The Wii is a toy (and a pretty fun one at that), just like the Kinect will be, but it is not a serious gaming console. It is not something you can reserve a quiet evening to yourself to sit down and frag baddies with. It's a social/exercise toy.
( Side note - Since I know I'm going to get flamed for my above comments, let me clarify one thing: game developers are clearly at least partially at fault for the Wii's niche. There have definitely been attempts at more "gamer"-type games. The problem is, most of them fail completely. There aren't any good shooters, despite the fact that the controller is practically begging for shooting games. There aren't any good swashbuckling games, despite the undisputed fact that 100% of Wii owners use their 'motes as pretend lightsabers on the first day of their purchase. And there aren't any great action-y games, because there just aren't enough buttons. There have been a few attempts at each of the above genres, but they all seem to fall flat. So the Wii has a reputation for being less "hardcore" and less "serious" for gaming, but Nintendo can't be fully blamed for that. The Kinect, on the other hand, has done nothing at E3 but beg to be placed in the same niche of the Wii).
Back to the question at hand: it seems to me that game developers just aren't in a hurry to push the issue of a new console generation. PC games haven't gotten more demanding since Crysis (not counting poorly-optimized console ports), and their graphics, while hands-down better than consoles, aren't really in a league of their own. Games made to run on the 5- or 6-year-old hardware of consoles look nearly as good as they do on a 2-year-old mid-range PC. So why invest millions into a console that doesn't really have much more to offer? Not surprisingly, no company seems to be willing to do that.
But where does that leave the gaming market? Those who want "hardcore" gaming experiences are still there. There's a new generation who never owned a SNES. Kids who weren't even alive when Sega was still making consoles are just now getting old enough to game, and not all of them are going to have friends (or at least, friends who game). So they can either buy 5-year-old hardware and just suck it up like everyone else, or they can buy a toy and hope that more "hardcore" devs move with the kinetic gaming market. Or they can buy PCs.
Maybe it's time for the PC to resume its regency of "serious gaming". It seems to be either that, or "serious gaming" is gonna die out. And I doubt that's going to happen. -
I think the issue with the current game market is partly tied to the strange hardware situation we are in histi. I mean you said it yourself, the "current" consoles are 5 years old and the companies that back them have no plans for successors on the horizon - quite the contrary, I believe sony has already publicly stated that the PS3 was "only just reaching its' prime and isn't even half finished its' lifespan"
Where does that leave game devs and companies, especially big ones? Yes, the 'little guy' can get away with producing PC only games, but the huge studios (EA, activision, soon valve, ect)? They cannot simply cut consoles or pcs out of the picture. Which means that, usually if they are going to make a game, they make it for the console FIRST because it has the lower hardware requirements, and the pc comes later. Meaning they cannot push the limits of technology, so everything sort of feels like a re-hash of last year's games. You can easily tell the difference between say, GTA vice city and GTA 4, but there is very little if any difference between GTA 4 and EFLC (the sort of dlc to gta4). The consoles are nearly at their maximum power output now and no amount of code refinement is going to cover that up.
"Serious gaming" equilibrium is not going to happen until pcs and consoles have leveled the playing field in terms of pure hardware performance; this is why most (almost all) games today are still being made for DX9, so consoles can keep up. This wasn't happening before in the era of the PS2, because that generation of consoles was replaced rather quickly compared to now. It's a noble thought to hang on to a console (or any piece of tech besides tvs/monitors) for more than 5 years, but in reality it just causes a boatload of problems. The current consoles are literally killing the future of gaming, odd as that sounds. -
If you happen to only care about graphics, then yes, consoles are indeed killing gaming (for you).
-
It makes me think that if all games were made to push hardware to the limits on max settings and look amazing, where would we be in terms of graphics quality by now? -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
2. It's not news because they've already been doing this and similar timed or small content exclusives for years. But now because they had to fill time at E3 they might as well blow the same horn... again. It's very easy to throw some money around to bring attention to yourself. How about fixing GFWL? Or at least making it bearable for PC gamers. That would be an announcement I can get into. But that requires real thought and resources. Money is just easier I guess.
I did forget about Fable 3. I suppose that is going to be pretty cool. There's lots I didn't mention but overall Nintendo's offering look the best. Other than the tech glitches on stage, which are way more common (think Steve Jobs) than you may be aware of, Nintendo is kicking butt 2010/11!
AC Brotherhood is one of my most anticipated games this fall. I HATE Ubi for their punishing DRM, which is why I played AC2 on PS3. But I cannot wait for Brotherhood. Ubi is really upping the bar in taking a franchise in directions that feel right, as opposed to cramming the same old cliches and mechanics into a new setting. It sounds like the devs are listening to gamers and Ubi is letting them make good decisions, as opposed to letting the publishing arm make decisions for them. I hope it doesn't disappoint. -
1) I dislike Motion Controller gaming. I have not been impressed with Wii(I own one!). I've never bought into the hype with Natal and Move!
In my opinion, it's a great thing that Kinect support is kept out of the core games. That's what concerns me a lot about a title like LBP2. What a giant novelty, waggle stick will be for that game!
I think Kinect and Move are hard attempts. They can't get the Wii market. Even tho they have great products it won't help. Wii has already gone and passed.
2) Yes it is. All these conferences are, are smoke and mirrors and glorified PR promotion. That's all it is. It's a E-Peen competition. I still think that they could have filled up lots more with XBLA and Third Party software titles! They kept it quite low. -

2) I saw the video of the Nintendo conference. I think it was not big since he was really playing the game in stage (my impression is that the MS conference was all staged).
So far I've only seen the MS and 1/2 of Nintendo conference. My impressions so far:
- Kinect is a disappointment. So far, besides the dancing game, gaming-wise is just marketed to attract the Wii population. On the other hand it is a nice, but expensive, controllerless control (hands and voice, that is nice).
- MGS Raising looks promising, and the hopes that the new star wars MMORPG will be good are there.
- It is a shame Valve still show no sign of HL:Ep3.
- Nintendo had an interesting presentation (so far the 1/2 I've seen): the new Zelda implements the Wii controls (wasn't that supposed to be there since the last one??), since necromancy (bringing the dead back to life) worked well with the Super Mario Bros Wii title, Nintendo is now repeating the trick with Kirby, GoldenEye, and Donkey Kong Country. For me definitely the new Metroid is worth looking. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
At least with Move it looks like you have a choice. Play Killzone 3 with Move or not, it's up to you That's how you do it. The eye pet games are also a nice departure from the typical Wii offering. So Sony is doing it right despite their copycat controllers.
My big problem with Wii is that the "super intuitive" control scheme baffles my wife and friends on other games. And it doesn't do much to impress me either actually. Ya it works for Tennis and Mario Kart but throw in Lego Indy or Dead Space and people just get frustrated with the controls. So I bought a PS3 Slim for about the same price as my Wii (when I bought it) and now we love to play co-op games on controllers that make sense.
I understand what these shows are about. But more often than not the MS offering just fails to live up to their potential. And I know why. They have huge market share and a subscription service. So why go out the way to really try. That's the MS way.
The jury is still out on Goldeneye but it could be good. I welcome DK Country actually. New SMB Wii is excellent. Zelda could use a bit of a shake up but Nintendo's entire offering makes up for it. They are hard at work making a lot of great games and of course 3DS!
Ya HL3 is the new DNF *sighs*. I like that PS3 is getting some Valve love, finally! And Portal 2 looks and sounds to be excellent. It's Valve so it'll be good by default. And Steam Cloud! That is great step forward for the PS3. -
Fable 3, Halo Reach, Gears 3, Forza 3, Kinect. You have a lot of stuff that is not very interesting.
Add to that, MGS Rising and Devils Third being the two new most interesting IPs on the console, and both of them are multiplatform.
On top of that, Call of Duty Black Ops - With CoD4/World of War/MW2 being favorited on 360 above all other platforms, it seems that Black Ops was a real dissapointment, and yet also more of the same.
Little, to almost no Japanese support, outside of Rising. Nothing from Square-Enix. What was there from Capcom? Namco Bandai? Konami(outside of Rising?).
They say that 360 will live for years without a new console replacing it, and that is great, but Kinect won't save it. I am afraid that 360 will loose momentum in 2011. They won't be able to keep it afloat. They might do aggressive price cuts, but I am not sure that it will matter in the long run.
In my mind, they need something special like The Last Guardian or LittleBigPlanet.
Joy Ride should have remained free! I think MS is under a lot of pressure. They are like a wounded animal that is losing territory, from all fronts. Courrier, Zune... Xbox. Windows 7 has been their only bright star as, Apple and Google are starting to show their true colors! -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
A good E3 summary from Penny Arcade.
Penny Arcade! - Let's Get Ready To Rummmmbllllle
But I have to give more props to Sony than that comic expresses.
Oh I always forget too mention Epic Mickey on Wii! Damn that game sounds VERY cool. I mean Warren Spector doing a Wii game? This is going to be very hot. -
Fallout New Vegas and Brink are both amazing games. Like, super amazing even.

E3 this year is actually pretty disappointing, big 3 conference wise the watermelon cutting of MGS Rising definitely is the high note for me.
