It is great news
You should look out for those games this year.......................................
-

Seems EA of late have taken a turn on the whole DRM issue, even the new sims 3 will only have a serial number. -
Right.
-
That makes a lot of sense...... NOT.
-
as apposed to half a joke?
-
An April fools joke would be funny. If this was fake all it would do is royally people off. This is legit.
-
Why dont they just not use securom from on now. Oh because they can't think properly.
-
It looks like they're planning on not using it.
Basically, the message is finally getting across that making games harder to pirate at the expense of the consumer enjoyment will only enrage the people actually paying for the games. As just about every anti-piracy method out there has been cracked less than a day after its release. -
They're starting to learn.
Sims 3 will just use the simple CD Key technique. It's quite ingenious when you think about it. No matter what they do, if someone wants to hack and pirate it, they will find a way to do it. Using such a simple CD key method will keep casual users out of the piracy area, as well as not hindering the user experience. This time it won't stir up a **** storm like Spore.

If Sims 3 has no Securom, ill buy it when it comes out. If not, then I either wont get it, or wait for the BARGAIN BIN! lol.
-
Hmm, this seems totally legit, just tried it on my two machines... Still, a pain that this step is required, but atleast it's fairly painless now!
-
I wonder if anyone of you have read this?
Note the bit about using serial keys for their upcoming games, perhaps other publishers with the same restrictive policies will do the same?
Edit: I didn't see Red Dragon's post which was made earlier, could a mod either merge or delete this thread please? -
a step in the right direction but Im still hesitant to trust them actually...
I will wait and see the news once the drm has been reduced -

no, a quarter of a joke. -
So what about those already lost activations? No chance of getting those back?
-
If you email both Securom and EA your CD key, along with a very aggressive and nasty message full of curse words, apparently they reset your install limit. As in my case with my steam version of Crysis Warhead, infact strangely it seems after I did that I've NEVER had the error message telling me to buy ANOTHER CD KEY yet. I was a little more than upset after I couldn't play the game I just bought after only 3 days of buying it, but of course I also benchmarked it in win XP x64-x32, and vista x64-x32, then vista x32 on a different machine, then tried it on windows 7 beta and got the error on all of my previous installs. I was exceptionally angry because I bought it on steam in an attempt to avoid the install limit, not knowing it had it too.
-
Why only a quarter, thats not very funny.
-
Mirror's Edge already only need CD-key and no CD in tray.
-
Any DRM, and no sale. I will not buy a game that requires any sort of activation, period. CD key is plenty thank you very much. If that means I'm stuck playing games from the nineties, then so be it... I still get tremendous enjoyment from them.
-
i'm close to unblacklisting EA now. close, not quite there yet.

Did Dead Space have DRM ? I'm thinking about picking it up....
-
I think it does, although they compensated gamers by not requiring the DVD in drive for you to play.
-
Not to mention that a cheap laptop will run every one of them!
-

Lol well i was thinking about getting it on STEAM so that wouldn't have mattered anyway
-
Just a little piece of advise. Don't buy something from steam if you can possibly get it in a retail box in a timely manner. The only exception to this might be games that specifically require steam for activation.
Not being in possession of a physical copy of a game really curtails your rights if they should randomly decide to ban your account or patch the game to a buggier version. -

Yeah i know, i was thinking about that recently with all the complaints people have given about there STEAM accounts being suspended and such.
Also there are so many mods for games that you cant get from STEAM. Dead Space is one of those games though that i just want to play for the experience.
EA caves in and loosens the DRM shackles
