    Hi guys!

Lately, I have found that my laptop is suffering with OFF THE ROOF temps. 90C while playing Crysis or Black Ops. I am no expert in choosing thermal compounds or replacing them, so I will wait till my warranty voids. So my question is : would opening the laptop and suck the dust out help the temps? Would opening the laptop void the warranty?

    Thanks!

You could just first try blowing the dust away from the exhaust fans.

With compressed air? From or to the vents? ( I mean from the outside or from the inside )?

You can blow from the outside, when you blow it goes in, then when you turn it on the dust will be blown out. But its always better to blow from the inside to out.

with high end laptops i cant see how certain company's will void your warranty just cos you want to clean the vents and fans out as its recommended to clean them out every 3-6 months. bit difficult if they void your warranty for a general clean.
at least clevo are user upgradable so no problems taking the base plate of on them.

It shouldn't void the warranty. The two Asus laptops I've owned had a void-if-removed sticker on the heatsink screws.

With that said, I don't know how the N61 is built. If you have a single access panel, remove it and clean to your heart's content. If not, stick a paperclick through the vent to keep the blades in place--spinning a fan's blades when they're not meant to is a no-no--and blow air from the outside towards the inside.

    Repaste.

I repasted and it dropped my temps nearly 20C. :)

BTW, opening the laptop doesn't void the warranty. On Asus laptops it's generally only if you take out the CPU. As far as I'm aware, my Asus is still covered and I repasted it a couple of months ago.

Personally, I'd check with the reseller or manufacturer website just to make sure. It will most likely be different if you have a third party warranty on it like my Toshiba has.

When I went to my retailer, they said that it would void the warranty. My laptop has 2 access panels : 1 for HDD, 1 for the rest ( GPU, CPU, Fan, etc ), but it doesn't have any sticker saying "warranty void if removed".

Yep, I was/am. It is useless, noisy, and I got lots of dust into my laptop because of the cooler.
