I am looking for a new notebook and have narrowed it down to 2 Dell (D830 or Vostro1500) which are similar with the exception of the GPU. It will be used primarily for running Solidworks/Autodesk/ProE/ANSYS/MATLAB and the usual office, email etc. The video cards im looking at are the GeForce 8600 GT and the Quadro NVS140M. I realize the Quadro FX is the "certified" CAD card but the price is a bit steep for the system. If you use any of the above mentioned software on either of these cards can you indicate if youve encountered any problems. Im not concerned with extensive rendering capabilities but working with medium sized assemblies with 2-3 windows is expected. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Both will work fine, but if you can afford it go with the D830. Its a better quality laptop. The vostros are really budget minded, and you get what you paid for.

Have you checked out the Lenovo T61p? But yeah if you are just going to decide between those two try to get the D830.
