According to Tim Sweeney, Epic will stop trying to make exclusive deals and will consider selling their own games on Steam if Valve will agree to more fair revenue share for developers+publishers, regardless of how profitable the games will be (meaning same share split even for small indie developers).

Of course, they might not honor their word (as it was pointed out in this video Epic already reconsidered the "exclusivity" promise once so they are not a very trustworthy company) but at least now Valve and fat, lazy GabeN have even better reason to show how much they actually care about developers and challenge Epic to hold their promise at the same time ;-) Would be very interesting if GabeN will respond with "we are implementing a 88/12 revenue split for every developer and we are eagerly awaiting to see Tim hold his promise and publish Fortnite in Steam store" and this would be a "win-win" situation for the gamers, developers and Valve themselves (especially considering that they can't milk CS:GO and DotA forever - both games that are so old and boring that they don't even appear on top 10 US games list on Twitch.tv and since they don't have any other new games in development aside from their failed TCG game attempt - they NEED more third-party games in their store).

Guess exclusives on EPIC launcher is there to stay then, don't see Valve accepting this challenge at all.

we should be glad that epic is pushing for a more fair and competitive marketplace, even if the means to get there by epic is questionable. the ball is now in steam's court and whether they'll standardize their cuts as well.
gamers easily forget that they hated steam when it came out when HL2 launched so, as gamers, we have a selective memory. -
Well, I never "hated" it but I still dislike Steam after a first hand experience with:
- Slow and not very friendly Customer Support
- Inability to gift some games to friends in other countries like Finland for no good reason (I am willing to pay higher price for such gifted games to compensate for local taxes but Steam is unwilling to take my money because of reasons they could not even explain)
- Poor moderation of communities and user profiles on Steam (I've seen lots of racist/xenophobic **** in those, reported all of them, most were not changed)
-Poor anticheat measures (I've reported lots and lots of cheaters in CS and TF2, most are still not banned)
-Uncompetitive prices for new games (most games I buy are new ones and in most cases I can find games or keys cheaper at other places).
This is excluding other drawbacks, such as, for example, the fact that if you'll buy MMO game like FFXIV on Steam - you will not be able to buy and activate an expansion for it at other places (you must buy those through Steam). Of course, some old geezers or adults who do not play games anymore and who just like to collect old games during Steam Sale are not aware of any of those and will unfortunately continue falsely assuming that "Steam is perfect" and (what's worse) that "competition is bad" ;-)Prototime likes this. -

I don't think any game launcher is perfect and yes this includes steam. I just hate this exclusivity crap to be honest. It's great that epic is trying to push that developers get a fair share however, a leopard doesn't change its spot. However it will take hell to freeze before steam even gives an inch.

According to Tim Sweeney he is doing this BS and crapping on gamers and customers on behalf of developers.
Meanwhile his salaried devs work 70-100 hours and not paid overtime.
Who cares what Tim Sweeney says or thinks. He's scum, he's just greedy. That's it.
Why should I be happy about a platform that is pushing exclusives. Why should I be happy a platform that is anti-consumer, no consumer reviews, refund policy that probably violates numerous regional laws, depending on your pay service, you pay more. Why should I be happy about a service that promotes micro-transactions (their deal is they don't take profit share of microtransactions sold on their platform).
You compare Epic to Steam? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Steam was the first major online service for PC gaming. THE FIRST. You compare gamers complaining about Valve innovating a service and trying to figure out how to improve their service to Epic? Epic has numerous examples and BILLIONS of $$ and hundreds thousands of employees to introduce a competitive service. ORIGIN is better than Epic. UPLAY is better than Epic. Battlenet is better than Epic. GOG is better than Epic. Are you kidding? You compare Epic to Steam? WTF?!?!?!?Last edited: Apr 29, 2019killkenny1 likes this. -
All this crying about devs and publishers. Please... They get paid. There is no question, Epic is raking in billions. 2K is raking in billions. Yeah my heart breaks for these devs and publishers.
You have to compare what services each platform provides and they decide what cost they will charge and developers and publishers will decide what they are willing to pay for said services. They have to assess their needs and think about what works best for them.
To expect a standardized pricing is idiotic. I buy from MicroCenter for certain products because of their robust return policies and it's local. I buy stuff from Amazon for certain reasons. Each place charges different service and prices. I expect the same for distribution services. You really think all the shipping services provide the same pricing? No their pricing is based on the services they provide. I buy from NewEgg they provide the worst service, and worst shipping, but their prices and deals are the best. But if I want customer service, MicroCenter. Fast shipping, Amazon.Last edited: Apr 29, 2019 -
Developers and Publishers are able to use whatever service they want.
But the smart thing, is getting your product on as many platforms as you can.
I don't care what the profit sharing is on whether it's Origin, Uplay, Steam, GOG, Epic. If I was a dev/publisher, I would want my game on ALL the platforms, every single one of them. Cause you know what? 70% profit on steam is better than ZERO.
Knowing gamers are finicky and each have their own preference, the behavior of these devs and publishers is idiotic. I know a few people who refuse to use any DRM platform, so GOG it is. So being on Epic, will alienate anyone who won't buy from a platform like Epic. Some only play Ubisoft games, getting your game on Uplay might be a smart idea if you think your game might interest Division or Siege players. Getting your game you think might interest COD/Diablo/WoW players, getting it on Battlenet might be a smart idea.
Oh and Steam is the ONLY robust service on Linux. So FU to Linux gamers I guess. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Refund process on Epic store sure seems like fun!
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/bj469c/epic_store_wanting_ip_addresses_for_a_simple/
Probably want to make the entire process as annoying as they can so that no one would request a refund... -
Asking for IP address is stupid. Hopefully they will remove that requirement in future.
