Does anyone know what resolution 1280x1024 on a 17" screen (don't know if it is widescreen) is equivalent to on a 15.4" widescreen? Right now I have 1280x1024 on a 17" desktop screen and I like how it is, I'd like to just get the same thing in a 15.4" laptop.

Well your 17" is not widescreen, it's 4:3. You will probably be OK with a XGA or WXGA resolution on a 15.4 inch; however, that's a pretty low resolution and you may be happier with a little more real estate. I would go and check out various models in-store and see what you like. I bet you'll find you adjust to a higher resolution pretty quickly.

On a 17 inch wide screen 1440x900 would be the most simuler to 1280x1024.
A 15 inch is smaller so 1200x800 would be good.

    1280x1024 is 5:4.

Anyway if mean the closest thing size wise, you want the 1280x800 screen. It is pretty low though and you may want to try 1440x900.
