    I have a new 1720 with a 2.2 CD2, 8600m GT and 2 gb memory. I removed vista and installed XP.

Everything works great except when I installed my favorite old game, Unreal Tournament GOTY edition. (circa 2000) When I first start the game it runs very choppy and extremely fast, when I go online it becomes extremely choppy, like it skips several hundred frames at a time. I normally only play online at a favorite run and gun low G sniper server, but when I go into the game against the computer bots it seems to be running about 20 times the normal speed.

I have tried lowering the resolution, color depth to 16 bit, changing the desired framerate, nothing changed.

I have played this game with a Pentium 200 with a riva TNT2 up to a CD2 @3.3 with an X1950GT with no problems, so obviously this laptop should be able to handle it.

    any ideas?

I believe you can chose between D3D and OpenGL. Have you tried switching?

I chose direct 3D as I always have, I will switch it and see what happens.

Edit: It acts exactly the same.

Heya, the problem lies within your dual core processors. I have the same problem on my area-51 m9750. The trick for me atleast, was to put the computer into sleep mode, then wake it up. Then it would let me play the game at normal speed. Try it out on your laptop and see if it works.

Thanks, I will give it a try.

I just found the thread on "8600M GT Stuttering Fixes" and there is a link that address that very problem.

Funny, I used the search feature in this forum and found nothing on it but when I went back a few pages I found that thread........

EDIT: Thanks Agatius, it was indeed the problem with dual core. I followed the link in the 8600M GT stuttering thread and used the fix from MS for it and all is fine now :)
