Evesham came off the starting blocks at the end of November with this Clevo based offering called the Zieo NX680-HDX.

What's so different about it is the price, and then the spefication. For £1,999 (Around $4000 / €3000) you get your standard gaming notebook offering, but with some key differences.....

I challenge anyone to find a better price in the UK for such a system. Anyone taken the plunge?

You can get it cheaper at RockDirect. With a bit more customization options, i.e. different ram etc. Why pay more for a Clevo reseller when you can put things in yourself.

1973 configured at Evesham with a 1 year warranty.
2094 configured the same at RockDirect with a 3 year warranty.

I'd personally go with the 3 year myself. It's worth the extra 167.

Don't you think it would be wiser to simply purchase a desktop if you're looking for that level of power? Just curious.

This question always get asked and the answer is usually the same. Each user is different. I work on a ship with limited space. Carrying a 12lb notebook works for me. Sometimes you don't have the space for a desktop. ;)

    No.

ROCK offer an X7900? When i go to configure a notebook with the max CPU they offer (2.6) and add the 4GB RAM and 1GB TURBO CACHE. It comes to £2460.45inc VAT.

Why Turbo Cache? It doesn't help performance, and it even hiders it at times.

The 1GB Turbo Memory comes with the Zieo NX680 as standard for £1,999. You cant remove it. But ok... then -£30 for the Turbo Memory/Cache, infact lets be generious and say -£60. Thats still £2400. Im still £400 more at ROCK and 200Mhz under CPU wise. That means more than £400 for the extra 2 year warrenty. Suppose thats good if your laptop fails a lot in that time (£400's worth of failures).

As i said, this is a very keenly priced notebook. A few forums have commented on the validity of it, and personally id like to see a review of one.

EDIT: Actually I think id rather see a review of fabratis Powerbook. I have never seen one with 768 Gigabytes of RAM. ;)

I assume you're reffering to the Anadtech article they did initially reviewing Santa Rosa? IT turns out they hadn't enabled it properly. They did a follow-up, and it did help out in almost all areas by 5-15% (except hibernate times, which remained ridiculous - Intel blames MS and vice versa, of course).

You know your right. After looking at it the most they offer atm is the 2.6Ghz CPU. If Evesham is offering the 2.8 I'd be very wary atm, either it's vaporware or they are violating Clevo's recommendation that that CPU not be used. There will be another version coming the 1st quarter of next year but if they are putting a higher TDP processor in a notebook that can't handle it. I would be concerned about the longterm effects.

The M570ru was not designed to be able to use the 2.8GHz chip. The most it was designed to use was the 2.6Ghz. The m571ru will be able to use it but it will not be available till later next year. There is also the issue with the sleep/suspend problem with the 8800GTX's that will require all m570ru's to have a motherboard revision. That should be ironed out next year as well.

So, evesham doesn't charge VAT? I thought they had to.....

If i was overseas then that would be great. ;)

Btw, evesham is not the only supplier to put a 2.8 into the M4570RU. Cyber System's SR17 also includes the X7900 in the same Clevo chassis. It was the notebook with the first 8800M GTX reviewed @ NotebookJournal. If you look at the temp readings, it actually runs pretty cool they said....

The last Zeio (with the 8700 and X7900) was "GOTD" at STUFF Magazine too. It all seems legit to me.
