The specs with the 8400M GS will be better than the X3100 obviously, since the X3100 is an integrated graphics card chip. Theo nly thing the X3100 config has over the 8400M GS config is that it has more RAM, which you can always upgrade yourself later.

Yes, we can all see that. You don't have to be pushy and bump your thread.

1GB with Vista is going to be brutal, you should upgrade it.

sorry, but isnt 1GB of RAM ok for Vista as the graphics card has 128mb? As the other has 2GB RAM yet the graphics card will need memory.

Just tell me this which will run Vista better?

You'll run Vista better on the one with 2GB of RAM, but games will be better with the 8400 GS (however, RAM will still be a bit low).

Ideally, just buy the 8400 GS one and add more RAM yourself for cheap.

Well which one is it, vista or HL2.

The second laptop will run vista better because it has 2gb of ram.

The first laptop will run HL2 MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better because it has a dedicated card.

So what do you want ur laptop to do, run vista or HL2?

Just what is wrong with buying your own stick of RAM for $20 and installing it yourself so you can get the best of both machines?

I really think 1gb is not good enough for vista. vista is very demanding and needs more ram. 2gb is fine. otherwise the first one is way better for gaming because it has a dedicated video card. the second has an integraded one.

Get the first one. You can always upgrade your RAM (particularly since it is cheap as all hell) but you can RARELY upgrade a video card...and they are quite expensive for notebooks.

I ran vista x64 RC1 (less optimized than what's out now) fine on 1GB RAM. Granted, I didn't game or do anything demanding, but gaming in this case will still be better than the one with 2GB, so that scenario doesn't apply here.

Yes it has been said several times that the first one is better.

Reason is it has a dedicated gpu. It's very easy and inexpensive to add another gig of memory to it to make it equal to the second machine.

But it's impossible to add a dedicated gpu to the second machine and make it equal the first one.

How tight can your budget be if you can't afford to spend 30 bux on another stick of memory. It's not that hard to save up 30 bux.

What they said. RAM is cheap, and if the $20 really makes that big a difference, you might want to look at a cheaper laptop overall - since there will undoubtedly be other expenses after the purchase (software, peripherals, accessories, etc.).

Also, even if you don't upgrade RAM right now, you can always do so later when you have more money available. Buy the laptop with the 8600M, and then upgrade the RAM at your leisure in the future.
