    Hi,

I have a Dell 20" wide screen external monitor, which I used with my old desktop @ 1680x1050.

    I am considering the Asus F8SV-A1 with the 256mb 8600GT @ 1440x900..

I'd like to use the external with the laptop...

What kind of screen resolution can I expect to get if I use my external monitor with the F8SV-A1 ? Can I get it to 1680x1050 ?

I primarily play MMO's...EVE Online in particular...as well as a few older RTS (WC3).

    Thanks!

Yes you can get it to that resolution. The power of the card has nothing to do with the res you can get on the desktop.

Now if you're asking about gaming at that res, that's another story. But the ability to drive a desktop at that res is not really a problem given the right connection.

As adinu said, the power of the card doesn't have to do with the resolution, unless your gaming. The monitor is what regulates the resolution you can use, and it will say what resolution it runs at.
