my extensa is one with an MXM II connector as opposed to being the intel integrated graphics. i want to upgrade the ATI HD2400XT thats in it, preferably to GDDR3, there is loads of info on other laptops by acer, but i havnt found a single extensa that has been upgraded...
does anyone know of one that has been, which card went into it, and whether an nVidia 9600m gt will work... ? please someone must know something...

Well, you can be our guinea pig then. :D

Seriously though, have you taken apart your laptop to see whether it really is MXM II?

Also, there is a lot of work involved in upgrading the GPU. Sometimes you have to grind down heat sinks and heat spreaders because there are capacitors on the new GPU that won't fit, sometimes you have to make custom heatsinks, it really is a lot of effort.

But if you are experienced enough, and this laptop is out of warranty, then it may be possible.

    its an Extensa 5620G 1A2G-blablabla
ye its MXM II, it has an ATI HD2400 XT card in at the moment, which is just crap. and yes its out of warranty, i have already upgraded CPU, graphics is the main one i want upgraded though. i have all the time and effort to put in in the world :D i would love to be the guniea pig, if it wasnt involving the risk of losing cash.... thats why i need to be at least 80% sure a card will work...

You could probably pick up something like a 9600M GT off Ebay for $120.

A better option would be a 4650 (5920G had a successful upgrade to 4650), but I don't think that there are any on Ebay at the moment. They are extremely hard to come by.

Urm you should check first if it is compatible to be honest is hard to tell and it could be a risk but you could just resell the card, this is more like an experiment, like my MSI 1651 :D.

I also have a gateway MC78 with MXM ATI HD 3650 and I installed a 9600gt and it worked just fine, but I had to wait like 30 secs @ startup, and after that everything is normal.

BTW Im selling one, MXM 9600gt (look @ the marketplace) for $100 USD + shipping.

80% of the time it will work 50-50 or 50% of the time. lol
Almost no guarantee it will work, Id try the 4650 but the 9600 GT might also be viable.

Have to go to work, but 2 things:

-I have a 8600m GT lying around, Ill sell it for $50 (is that fair?)

-See sig for my acer MXM upgrade.

PS - I would try to get info on the wattage that your current card requires. You dont want to throw something into your notebook that requires twice as much power. Also, the higher the wattage requirement of the card, the higher the cooling needed (usually). Keep these things in mind. Your current card isn't a beast, so you cooling structure probably isn't too impressive. Undervolting will be a must.
