I use a Gateway MX3416 at work and have a external lcd display hooked to it to have dual monitors. Right now the only way I can set it up is to have the laptop be the main display, this isnt the best setup for me though. Is there any way to set it to have the lcd be my main display and the laptop be my secondary display. Thanks for any help.

Right click on desktop, click on Personalise, and then Display settings. With your external screen connected, click on the blue rectangle that represents your external screen. Then, check the little box underneath that says 'This is my main monitor'.

Click on the rectangle that represents your laptop monitor and uncheck 'This is my main monitor' there. Also make sure the box for extending the desktop is checked. Then, click on the rectangle representing your external display and the box should be checkable.
