    Hello,

We had a little power outage this morning. Somebody here has a laptop with an external monitor attached to it. The laptop stayed on because of the battery, but the external monitor went out with the power. Well. Now, when power is on and it's connected to the laptop, the monitor says "OUT OF TIMING (ANALOG)" in yellow letters on black background.

It says analog because it accepts both an analog and a digital signal, and it's attached using analog. The monitor is Sharp LL-T-1803B (LCD) and the laptop is Inspiron 9100 with ATI Mobility RADEON 9700.

We tried turning everything off and unplugging for a little while. We tried changing the refresh rates for the external monitor. Nothing. There are ATI drivers installed already, and I'm not sure which ones are the drivers to get, esp. since ATI says not to download drivers if you already have some installed. And, the little laptop system checker thingie is not compatible with Dell. So, any ideas what we can do? We get a little sushi party if we fix this :)

if you have ATI drivers, then go into the CCC or Tray Tools and see if there is an option for another monitor (also check display options, right click on desktop..properties)..there should be something to select the monitors, and how to align them, how they span, whether to span/mirror..etc..

also, dont just try it on that one computer..see if it works with any computer..it might have gotten damaged in the power outage.

let us know if this helps any.

    pb,out.

    Problem solved.

Hooked it up to a Mac laptop. Monitor worked. Hooked it back up to the Dell, also works. Did the Mac reset some monitor settings or was it just a coincidence? We'll never know...

Hm, it might have been reset when you hooked it up to the other laptop.

Next time, I would try accessing the menu on the monitor and resetting it to factory settings.
