Had my ASUS G71GX-RX05 for about 3 weeks and loving it. Now that i've had more time to play with it long periods i've noticed an oddity.

Seems every 45min-60min or so, sometimes more sometimes less the external i'm using goes black for 5-10 seconds then comes back fine like nothing ever happened.

Is this normal? Never had this happen on other systems. Could it be a driver issue? System is stock, running the Vista 64-bit it came with (and latest security patches applied).

It's a refurb so I only have 3 month with ASUS, though I don't think it's ever even been used as not a scratch, not even a fingerprint on the shell!

Hopefully this is something simple and I can rest my mind at ease.

This happens with a faulty HDMI cord I have, make sure it is not the wire first*. Also check to make sure this doesn't happen with other monitors. If all of these tests fail then take it up with ASUS.

    * make sure to check that it is plugged in entirely, the connectors are clear and also try it with another device if you can.

Guess i'll see, hooked up a brand new VGA cable I happened to have nice and sealed. I did notice the upper left which had a slight blue tint to it now is gone :)

Well I think we can call it a dead/sick monitor. The new cable worked...for about 5 minutes. Monitor went black, wouldn't come back. Tried VGA on my other ASUS. Nada

Tried the DVI on the other ASUS, also Nada.

Came back to life just as I was shutting down. Oh well, thnx for the help. Time to save for a new monitor I guess. :(
