    Good day,

If there an external video capture card for a laptop that I can use to play my PS3 on my laptop?

I don't wish to capture or broadcast as I've heard that PS3s have some software written that makes it protected. I just want to play. Thanks.

    Hello, Pete, welcome to NBR.

If your laptop has an Express Card slot, you can use the HD80E express card.
Results are not fabulous but it's the closest you can get.

Another option would be to buy a laptop that natively supports HDMI in, like the M17x R3/R4 or either of the M18x releases.

I asked this same question in the accessories forum but no answers, so I will ask it here.

Is there an external usb video / tv tuner that I can use to play my PS3 on my laptop? I only want to play it, no need to stream or capture the video as I heard that PS3s utilize some sort of protection to prevent video capture. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

I don't know what exactly you need/want, but I use HD PVR 1212 from Hauppugge. I've had it for a couple of years now.

Here are a few PS3 videos:

What I want to do is use the laptop's screen to play my PS3 on without having to connect it to a TV. Thanks for your help.

Your threads have been merged. The original one was posted just a few hours ago.

    Please don't crosspost!

And as an addition to my previous post, i just found this thread that might interest you if you go the HD80E route:

The Hauppauge HD-PVRs have some lagg with the disply on the laptop, they are great for recording since you have a pass through going straight to your tv, but playing using the laptop display will not work in games where you need to make split second decisions (shooters and platformers).

Yeah, I apparently didn't read the post right... without using the pass through, it'll definitely not be an option. Sorry for my mistake.
