Hi all
I have 2 laptops:
Razer Blade Stealth with 1650 and an Alienware m18x r2 upgraded with 3940xm and 1070.
I want to get an external monitor which i could use with both (but primarily the Blade Stealth)
I dont play super demanding games. Mostly things like total war series (warhammer 2 etc).
My main concern is whether the laptops i have will be able to power the monitors i am looking at. Ive never used external monitors before so this is all new to me.
The ones im considering are:
Razer Raptor 27

Alienware 27 AW2720HF

Samsung Odyssey G7 either 27 or 32 inch (would go 32 prob as barely difference in cost):

any advice is highly appreciated.
I really like the raptor design and it will probably be my main system as i will probably look to sell my alienware and if i got it it would go hand in hand with a future Razer eGPU system...but people dont seem to be super keen on it in reviews.

The Raptor is way overpriced for its specs. You can get a decent high-refresh 1440p IPS monitor for a little more than half the price. The Alienware is only 1080p, which I find a bit too low of a resolution for a 27-inch display. The Acer Nitro VG271U is 1440p IPS and is going to come in for less than $340 on Amazon US, not sure how it'd be on the other side of the pond.

is this the acer you are referrig to?

does look like a solid deal for half the price of the ones i listed. shame this one only seems to be in stock end of july. if i wanted it earlier id need to pay 450 on amazon....
would both my laptops be able to power such monitors in your opinion> sorry if stupid question! thanks for taking the time to reply
btw noticed you have a razer blade stealth toohow are you finding it? i think mines the old version from 2019, yours is the new 2020 one?

looking around there seem to be quite a few monitors which are 200 or so cheaper but again with all of them im not sure whether my 1650 razer blade stealth 2019 can drive them well enough. All have 144hz & 1ms and 1440p...

perhaps the money saved vs the Raptor and selling my m18x r2 can go towards an eGPU to helpLast edited: Jun 5, 2020 -

It depends on what you're looking to do. A GTX 1650 is not going to be anywhere near enough to run modern games at 1440p and 144 fps. That being said, I think the emphasis on needing hardware capable of running at 144 fps to fully take advantage of said refresh rate is somewhat overblown. The HDMI dongle I use with my Blade Stealth can only do a maximum of 70 Hz at 1440p, but even that little bit of extra headroom above 60 Hz makes a difference. Of course, adding an eGPU down the road will help, and if you can make it happen by selling your other laptop and going with a less-expensive monitor, then by all means do so.

im thinking the samsung odyssey g7 is probably best choice?
