i surely do enjoy my 424 fps in WoW
anything I run easily runs @ 200+ fps, even in RTS games.
I smelled smoke today after a few hours of gaming.
Anyone else to extreme crazy OC'ing?
-
-
smelled smoke = not a good sign/thing?
-
harpreet, do you work at IP?
and yes, ddr3 -
your gaming hours with those fps are numbered lol
-
ill get a cooling pad to moderate the heat, no biggie
-
driver? I run 625/550 temp is 64'C
-
is it core 725 and memory 725?
-
i call bs on this lol
pics? -
smoke?! damn...that's no good, but hell, what else do u expect from those clocks?!
-
and just out of curiosity, why do you ask? -
-
No, my name is Harpreet Singh.
-
off-topic..
Singh? my friends middle name is Singh! he uses it as his last name, cuz his real last name is funny... u from India? -
edit: lets continue convo in PM, and get back on topic w/ this thread -
Using BIOS O/C with 163.44 drivers. -

err with a cooling pad surely you shouldn't be smelling smoke... how effective are these cooling pad things? Anyway post a 3dmark06 score
-
I don't an overclock - even that big - on a 128bit 8600MGT mysteriously turns it into an 8800Ultra.
Sounds like a joke to me. Those clocks wouldn't be possible and most certainly not 'stable'. Funny how you mention 'stable' and 'I smell smoke' in one sentence. -
Any smoke, would be burning PCB. Once that happens, it's either memory error after memory error, or BSOD, or it'll stop working altogether. No matter what, if you see or smell smoke, your gaurenteed to not have a working notebook by next week.
Once more thing,, even with a massive OC like that, your FPS would be untrue, even at minimum settings, not only does OCing NOT make your mem bus width wider, you didn't OC your CPU to keep up.
With no screenshots your basically a liar, but it's not like that's uncommon, and unless by RTS you mean you got that many FPS in starcraft lol. -
*Remember I am a OC noob. The statesment below can be proved wrong anything. hehe
I don't why people don't believe him...granted it's a mobile platform...
But if you really think about it.. it's plausible.
He has the DDr3 8600m gt, stock @475/700
Which means he barely clocked his memory from 700 to 725?!, and about 250 on the core with cooling pad.
With my old x300 I can push the core from 325 to 450 in my desktop PC with out any other cooling besides the HUGE CPU fan that dell included, (Which does nothing for the GPU). Also, I found OC'ing the core is alot easier than memory. Since he didn't overclock much on the memory, he can push the core farther.
Well I agree without screenshot, we really shouldn't pass on the judgement either it be right or wrong. -
1) Core increase of 250 is not as 'plausable' as you suggest, and in a mobile part where airflow is **** and you cannot add an aftermarket cooler (as you can need to do in desktop cards, even in well vented systems). The desktop 8600GT, gaining a 100-120mhz overclocked is excellent (with stock cooler, but again, laptops dont need reference to 3rd party as they're stuck with what they have). Someone I don't see the mobile version, again, with crap airflow (as in all laptops) very calmly overclocking to a stunning 250Mhz increase. Must be a world record. It would actually be coming close to results people get when volt modding their desktop 8600GTs. I don't see that somehow happening, do you?
2) As pointed out above, if the core was at 1,000,000Mhz it still does not make up for the fact that the card is 128bit.
3) On lowest settings on such an overclocked 8600MGT, you would still NOT be able to reach 200FPS as stated on new games, or anywhere close.
also - x300 is a very good overclocker actually -
where's the thread starter? guess, he can't even turn his laptop on after his successfully stable overclock....we'll just hope for better
-
My laptop is ok, not enough damage was on. I'm @ work - I'll provide screenshots ASAP in about 4 hours. Don't know why you guys don't believe me. Anyways the laptop is ok, I reset them back to stock settings LOL
-
not enough...hmm we'll try to figure out a way to fix that
-
Yeah 200fps in what games
Starcraft perhaps, let´s see if you can run World in Conflict in DX10 at 200fps, laughing my ass off. Also good luck to you, you will have a burnt card really soon once you hit some very GPU demanding game.

725 ?? STABLE ?? not in your life
475 Mhz stock ------------- 950 shader
725 Mhz ------------------- x
X = ( 725 * 950 ) / 475 = 1454 shader
1454 - 950 = 504 mhz shader overclock ! STABLE is impossible
IVEN if he managed to get a 8600MGT BIOS that let's you bump more than 1.3V on nibitor, 89º it's impossible with a "simple" cooling pad.
I bet my G1S on it. Shader above 1200mhz is not stable. Sorry guys about my post but it's my opinion on it. I DID all the tests possible and i settled on 580 - 1160 - 805. Above this i get mix results, some times it manages others it doesn't.
For burn-in use atitools "show 3d view" and let it run !!
My 2 cents.. -
The guy probably has lots of artifacting on the screen with those clocks after just a few seconds of playing
-
His laptop is probably shaking when he cranks it up that high! i mean the $h1t is probably flying off his desk lol =)
-
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
For me, seeing is believing. All I hear is bull$hit. Post a pic of these "unbelievable" clocks.
Mike. -
Don't worry!
Keep on overclocking it! Get it up to 750 or even 780!! The smoke you are smelling is meant to increase your adrenaline as high as your fps!! Screw consequences, and overclock like theres no tomorrow! Take that cooler away and let the heat come on! Laptop on fire is the way to go!! Max out that volt! Take an adapter and increase the voltage to 280v!! Give all the juice your laptop needs to pump out that boosted performance! Tell all other notebooks to MOVE out of your way while you game like a mad man!
Just remember to have a fire extinguisher. -
-
do you know anyone who works for the fire department? i could even give them a heads for you if you want?

OMGSH I PWN THIS THREAD!
I OCed my GMA 950 after I soldered on an "Awesome" chip (it adds stream processors). It's running at 38.9 GHz core/48 GHz GDDR11 speeds. I had to rewrite the BIOS to support the small nuclear powerplant I had to attach to the GPU (it adds a couple pounds and a smokestack, but I put a couple blue LEDs on it, so it's l337).
I get 2000 FPS in Crysis, which suddenly installed itself on my computer when it realized that my GPU was the lord of all GPUs.
I still run CS:S at 800x600 because I don't like the performance drop when I go up to 1440x900. (4000 FPS vs 3850 FPS). -
lol @ every one of u! still waiting on some photo-shopped screens....
-
Storm effect that´s an awesome overclock
I added a jet engine to my laptop which helps me cool down my 7800GTX that has 1200 stream processors and 6ghz Core and 8GHz mem.
Show us some pics you liar who started this thread, no use to start a thread without any evidence about your ridiciulous overclock. -
424 FPS in WOW? My 8800 GTX can't even do that.
-
yeh guys i should worn u i have a 1000000 GTX in my lappy, so u know n e 1 who wants to bring the heat pm me =)
-
well my graphics card currently is a hamster on a tread mill,, running very well at the moment, asteriods at 3 fps
all my friends are jealous, and there constantly coming over and using me to play asteroids...lots of fun, ill even give you guys my addressso we cna have a super fun time playing asteroids together.

i pwn u ALL
chuck norris IS MY GPU

btw where r those screens? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Ken from gentech was able to overclock the c90 gddr3 to 600/901 and got 103 gpu temp.
-
103 celsius? dude he could make tea off of it

Crimsonman Ex NBR member
my graphics card is a gatling gun, i have to hand crank it to move and man it cranks, but my desk gets these weird holes in it
-
Can you really fry a mobile GPU?
Don't they have all sorts of thermal protection?
Worst you could do would be an untimely shutdown / reboot.... surely... -
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
yeah, you toast it. just like burning toast, it smokes and goes paf. like dell batteries.
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
OOH OOH, i found his proof
