    Hello,

I have a Dell E1505 with T2400, 1gb ram, and ATI X1300. Is this enough to play FEAR with 1024X768 (Low/Med Setting)? What about Far Cry?

    Thank you~

The resolution may have to be turned down to 800x600 (SVGA) to get it to run smoothly. Far Cry should run at 1280x800 (WXGA, I assume that is the maximum resolution of your display) at medium-high or high settings with no problems.

I can play FEAR on my X1300 at 1024x600 at low detail. In fact I just completed the game tonight, one of the best FPS I've played for some time I must say.

assuming FEAR Combat, and FEAR is similarly Taxing, Id say FEAR would run fine.

I have FEAR Combat installed, and it runs at a constant 60+FPS at defalt settings, whatever they may be.

usapatriot - turn shadows off. Makes a huge difference.

I was running Fear at 800x600 on medium settings on my 7400 - getting about 15fps. :(

Turning off just shadows, and increasing some other details to high (like effects, which are beautiful in firefights with all the dust and plaster) - big jump to 35-40fps! :)

More importantly, make sure Soft Shadows are off. They don't look that great to begin with, and are definitely not worth the performance hit.

Yeah, and in the Asus S96J review they said they had been playing Fear with almost everything at max and it ran smooth...

well, if you disable Shadows, the gaming experience will be totally different. You can't use shadows to your advantage etc. I would prefer to lower Shadow Detail to minimum and disable Soft Shadows... Check this guide to optimize performance: http://www.tweakguides.com/FEAR_1.html

Ok I disabled all shadows and sure enough, my FPS barely dipped below 40fps even in intense firefights. With mostly maxed-medium settings.

    So it was good.

Meh. shadows, = too much of a hit.

Told you, big difference huh? And to be honest its not THAT much of a visual impact. :D

I don't actually mind playing without shadows on my notebook. Still looks nice, and when it gives me 20 extra fps.... And Chaz - we're talking about regular shadows not soft shadows - I think if I tried to turn on soft shadows my 7400 would combust :D

I couldn't imagine turning off Shadows. I may have to on my laptop, but my PC runs F.E.A.R. all high, 1024x768 at about 60FPS. Shadows make the game what it is! Dark and intense!
