I have notice that thing about Windowed Mode. and its funny since all games perform worse on those condition.
I Like the game a lot but playing with keyboard is just too hard and boring since you have to play with lots of assists and its pure arcade.
Since my Cpu is bottlenecking i and my GPU is about 50% loaded i increased the visuals and i have the same performance with added gpu load except for cloth that is turned off.
We should wait for patches and it should be fixed i hope because game has lots of bugs and performance issues.
just amd just looking at Games for windows 3.3 update, i will update it and i will see if it will improve the performance like it did at GTV 4

Codie's is looking into the PC slowdown issue. It appears it's not OS related after all but is tied to the huge 2GB replay file they use. Apparently when the game goes into a 1-2 second slide show mode it's because the replay file is being heavily accessed.
I copied the temporary workaround for Windows XP and there's one for Seven as well.
Here's how to get around this problem in XP:
PC version of the game may be experiencing all this due to a massive replay file, too much data writing occurs on that file causing the lag and frame skips, when you go back to the game after having watched a replay.
You can find the file here.
C:\ProgramData\Codemasters\FormulaOne\DataCache\Ad ministrator\replay replay.pbf
You can set the replay.pbf file to read only and see if that helps. Or you can try the workaround below.
Windows XP Thanks @Fergo for suggestion.
1. Download Winbolic Link
2. Delete the original replay folder (don’t worry) and create a symbolic link with the name “replay” in that same directory. It will re-create a folder called replay (that’s why you delete the original one first) but this time it will be a link.
3. Create as a “Junction”, because it’s implemented directly in the file system, so you have best performance.
To all applications and to explorer itself, it will look like a regular folder, you won’t be “redirected” to the target one, but any file you copy inside it will also appear in the target (if not, then there’s something wrong with the junction). -
On the 5870 its runs great on Ultra Settings, no AA and 1080p. -

That's an incredible setup, I'm really impressed!
What kinds of things did you want to see in the game? I was blown away at first now I'm starting to become annoyed with it. -
-
And here is a link to the plans I used. I modified the steering position and the seat height to suit my height
Build an r-pod .... go on .... you know you want to!! -
Dirt, Dirt 2, and Grid look great. I just played a little f1 2010 and wow to say this game looks and runs crappy is an understatement! The graphics suck, the game runs like crap even on a decent system! What's funny is on a dual core i5 520 processor, during the game my processor only shows 39% utilization max. This game does not look half as good as Dirt. I really don't understand why. Maybe graphics drivers are the cause on my end, not sure, but using the latest catalyst 10.8, and my video card is a 5870m. Game just doesn't look good at all.
Codemasters are definitely not catering to pc users. That statement is loud and clear. Maybe due to all the pc pirating or whatever. I'm definitely going to get this for the xbox 360 instead. Let's just say Forza 2 on xbox 360 looks better than f1 2010 on the pc with all the settings maxed, which is very odd. Guess the advantage of pc games on superior pc hardware is diminishing very quickly.
The car models look great however. I still don't understand why it doesn't look as good or runs as smooth as Grid, Dirt, or other codemaster titles on the pc.
Remember F1 on the ps3? Yah, that game looks and runs a lot better than this game. -
^This is coming from a OFDR fan boy as well, which makes it that much more credible.

Getting the GTX 460 tomorrow, and if the Phenom II X6 that's in the mail for today works on this motherboard without a BIOS update, I'll post results at max settings.
It should be able to brute-force its way through this inefficient use of the otherwise fantastic Ego engine. -
OTOH what surprises me is the way it runs on your rig. I have a lowly E6750 with a 9800GTX+ in my gaming desktop and F1 2010 runs great in 1280x1024 resolution and 8xAA. I also find it runs better in Windowed Mode than it does in Full Screen. -
-
IINM F1 2010 is capped at 30fps so you're not imagining things. And yes not being able to drop down into windowed mode is down to GPU driver/hardware.
Can you create a profile via your graphics card control panel? I would try either F1 2010 Launcher or F1 2010.exe -
As for the fullscreen issue if you change this to "true" in the xml file located in your /documents/mygames/f12010 folder, that fixes the windowed mode.
I think there is a key which lets you toggle windowed mode but not sure. -
I tried some different settings. The game is definitely not capped at 30fps. I was getting like 40fps with vsync forced in the ati control panel. But even with AA forced in the ati cp it still wouldn't work.
-
-
OK finally got things cleared up lol. I knew I read that F1 2010 ran at 30fps and I was right except it was for the console versions.
The PC runs at 60fps.
-
Lol, I knew you were wrong. Probably an ati driver thing.
-
Well, I take back a lot of what I said earlier. Once I got my graphics settings right in this game, it looks fantastic. f1 2010 definitely has the best graphics I've ever seen in an f1 game. Try forcing SuperSampleAA in the ATI CP, that's what got rid of all the shimmering issues on my system any way. Forcing vsync in the ati cp didn't work. For some reason however vsync works so I'm not complaining.
The rain detail is simply amazing. Engine sounds are great. Impressive looking game to say the least. Game runs good but I think because it is a new game, a few driver updates might get the performance up a lot. Some screenshots:

Edit: Never Mind got it fixed

Yeah, the game is not capped to 30 fps. Just tried it on my brand spanking new GTX 460 and it ran at 40 fps in the garage (usually the place where I have the most trouble) on ultra at 1920x1200, 4xAA (until the power supply died ;_; ).

I just tried a race at Bahrain (again, with Lotus this time) and at 1920x1200, 4xAA, Ultra settings it hovers around 25-30 fps on the track. This is with a GTX 460 1GB (desktop). I'm going to stay away from this game until it is patched lest I lose interest. Back to Dirt 2 and Forza 3 for me.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. This thread will remain open, of course.
EDIT: One last update. I just tested Dirt 2 on the desktop at 1680x1050 (playing on my smaller monitor), 8xQCSAA, Ultra settings and apart from looking absolutely gorgeous, the game runs at 67 fps average, with minimum of 53 fps... Now compare that to F1 2010 and you see why I'm disillusioned. -
Too bad theres no reason to play single player.
-
My only beef is the save game killing bug that has killed to careers. I am waiting til its fixed before playing it again.
But it ran really well on my Clevo W870CU - at least as well as Dirt 2. -

Successfully completed 5 seasons in F1 2010
1st season :- BMW Sauber-Ferrari, finished 7th
2nd season :- Mercedes GP, finished 1st
3rd season :- McLaren-Mercedes, finished 1st
4th season :- RBR-Renault, finished 1st
5th season :- Ferrari, finished 1st
No performance issues, ran the game in ultra settings @ 1920x1080 resolution -
Any new similar game about to be launched in near future ?
-
Thought I would jump in, system is in siganture.
I noticed on a few tracks Bahrain mostly the glitches, I am up to Monaco now in career and noticing some more glitches again.
I am running at 1920x1080 no AA and custom mixed Med and high settings, I have really noticed how this loads up my system and feel like I get really good performance until the system heats up a bit.
I think there is a profile patch for ATI users see link http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...-profiles.aspx
Looking forward to real patches for this game, as it seems people loving dirt so I may have to buy that -

Hi guys! Has the patches arrived yet? this game is on special at the moment. Considering getting it for my m11x.

I tried again on both my desktop and laptop. On the desktop performance has greatly improved, more in line with what I was expecting in the first place. With everything maxed (including 8xQCSAA) at 1920x1200 I get an average of ~45 fps (GTX 460 1 GB + X6 1055T @ 3.5GHz) and ~25 fps in 3D.
On the laptop it's not so happy an ending. I think the 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo is a bottleneck. Performance doesn't change much by toning down the graphical settings. Seems you need a powerful CPU to play this game. -
I tested the game on my M15x with a 280m (262.99) and Mobility 5850 (10.11).
The 280m was much faster - to my surprise. Even apples to apples DX9 it smoked the 5850. This game and Dirt 2 are the only games where I observed this result.
F1 2010:
1600*900
No AA High
280m: 46 fps avg 34 min
5850: 39 fps avg 32 min
Dirt 2:
1600*900
No AA High
280m: 62.1 fps avg 50.5 min
5850: 51.7 fps avg 38.4 min -
Giving it another go with the new patch. Currently heading into race 3, hopefully the save file doesn't corrupt after race 4 again.

* I'm still in race 2 but I play the long weekend with the full race distance option at the Professional difficulty; it takes a sometimes frustrating number of tries to complete satisfactorily (and I'm not trying to win a race in a Lotus). -
Is there a way to manually back up the save file so that if it corrupts we can just overwrite that file and not lose our progress? -
I find Monaco, silverstone and Suzuka very challenging. You lose huge time if you stray from the line. The latter two have very tricky sequential high speed turns (left, right, left, right).
It makes me want to play the game more. -

There is a guide on the codemaster forums to saving/restoring save games
I can verify that it works. -
Anyone tried this game on G73JH or equiv?
M17x ?
Thanks keep me posted. -
IMO it requires a strong balanced system (based on playing it on an HP with N930/5650, M15x with i3/5850 and a Clevo with i7/5870). That means a powerful CPU and GPU. I think the game is best on a quad core CPU and anything from a 5850 upwards should run it fine at 1080p/High.
Anyone who says it runs fine on 4670 at 1080/Ultra is on drugs or lying. -
-
I should have no problem with my HD 5780 + i7-740QM + 8 GIG 1333
-
I'm late to the party, but better late than never : picked this game up yesterday.
Oh boy what a treat, it runs surprisingly smooth on my M4500 ( i7 Q820M, 8Gb ram, QuadroFX1800M Win 7 64bit ) @ 1920 x 1080.
Oddly enough, it ran worse on lower resolution with different aspect ratio
Anyway, the game looks gorgeous, it evokes a good sense of speed and it feels just 'right' when it comes to controls with a X360 pad.
I do have trouble loading my Live profile though...the loading bar just doesn't get further and my internet connection is OK. -
