    FEAR 2 System Requirements

Not surprised, though the ATi X700 being the ATi card listed as required made me chuckle a bit considering it's the X800 usually listed :p, funny how it requires a SM 2.0 level card, not a 3.0, which is a rarity now with multiplatforming rampant. Looks like PCs are set to rip this game apart unless there are some really nice high level settings just for PCs that pose a threat to 60 Hz goodness! :D

Can't wait, I heard the PS3 demo doesn't have regenerating health which is good because that's for sell out developers, though I'm still worried about the fact this isn't a built for PC only title like FEAR was. Either way, my excitement abounds!

Yea, I had a feeling it ran on the same engine as the first, just a little modded. This would mean that it will run on my netbook ;)

Requirements alone don't tell us anything in regards to performance though. That we'll see in a few days.

That is true but it is becoming the trend to optimize games, thank god and finally...
most of the exceptions are the highly acclaimed games like gta4, etc...

That means I'll be able to run it reasonably well on my laptop! I enjoyed the first F.E.A.R. so hopefully this one will be great as well.

Not asking for a lot are they? Hopefully the game really runs like what the requirements state or Monolith will be facing a similar backlash a la Rockstar.

The original also didn't have a regenerating health system but where you could hold up to 10 med-kits and use them any time you wished, I assume its the same for this game as well.

I'm excitied and also a bit disappointed by this game. Its in a way like FarCry 2, sharing little with its predecessor though not that bad.

I mean you don't play as the character in the original, none of the other FEAR characters will probably be in the sequel, save for Alma. You had your special slo-mo powers because you were a child of Alma but this time, you play as a normal Delta Force operative who got those powers simply through surgery, it kills the mystique. The developers stated this wouldn't take in mind the two unofficial expansions that came out for the original but I feel this indirectly follows Extraction Point as we're not going to see Douglas Holiday or Jin for instance.

I hope it's coded good. I want a good 60 FPS out of it.

    I average around 90 with F.E.A.R.

Loved FEAR. Been looking forward to this for a long time. Extraction Point was OK but Perseus Mandate just didn't do it for me. Glad the old team stuck with the story and got the title back! Hopefully this game lives up to the first. Warhead was the last sci-fi shooter I played and I need another to give me my action fix!

Does this one have the hand to hand combat that FEAR had? I actually really liked that, especially in MP.

The 8800m and 9800m gpus will be able to get 50 or more fps out of this no prob. Just that we we will need to have a 2.53 ghz or more processor to do it.

    And that i can checklist...lol

We are all looking forward to it. And monolith is one of those companies that like blizzard, only releases games they know will kick and that we will love. So we can rest assured.

AND NO ONE BETTER PIRATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUY IT OR PRE ORDER IT AT GAMESTOP

    !!!!!!!DONT PIRATE F.E.A.R. 2!!!!!!!

That brings me to my new question, what kind of DRM can we expect to deal with? Because, again, if it's got securom, well you can expect me to not be buying no matter how good it is. And I'm not debating this, I've had TERRIBLE experiences with securom in recent purchases, and I'm not dealing with it again. I'm fine with disk checkers like Tages, or StarForce though, if they use those it'll be fine.

Btw, a PC demo will be out on the 22nd (confirmed on their website)

Yeah, I notice that both FEAR 2, DoW2 and other new games coming out have REALLY low system requirements to run. This is good. If it didn't die a few weeks ago, my old Dell Inspiron 9400 could play them no problem. Now I have this Gateway, and they'll run EVEN BETTER!

Indeed. on the 22nd for the Xbox360 and Windows PC, the PS3 demo was already released on the 19th. If you're too impatient to wait, you can watch a playthrough of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJFVifgBg84

I haven't seen that video yet though, and don't plan to since the demo will be out for us in about 1 day, why ruin it by watching someone else play?

Good to see they are releasing a demo, I haven't been seeing many PC demos recently, which makes it very hard to evaluate a game before purchasing it. There are so many demos for the PS3 and Xbox 360 though I think the Wii also lacks demos.

For the love of God QFT. Sure MMOs and other high profile games will continue to stay with PC, but pirating sure kills developer/publisher confidence with all the pirating >:|

Twas nice when so many games were PC exclusives whose tech was built on making the most of high level PCs, and not with the consoles limiting what was possible like with all the multi-platform games. Now pirating has killed PC exclusivity.

Oh and yeah I do hope the hand to hand combat is just as good. One thing that was nice about having a keyboard and mouse on the PC is that lean functions are easily implementable, unlike a controller using the directional pad for leaning, though it'd be cool to have lean built into the PS3 controller via Six Axis. Either way, good times are sure to be ahead of us!

Does this actually matter? I'm not a game designer, but I was under the impression that the only thing that matters is what the game was "originally" designed for first, and how well it was ported second. This wasn't ported from the PS3 was it?

No but I'd assume the game design would be the exact same. I think the PC version was probably built first, with the 360 version being ported off that, then the PS3 version being most built from the ground up as far as coding goes. Of course the actually visual elements can remain the same, just different APIs, but taking into account the different RAM setups, APIs, and especially the CPU implementations require an almost complete overhaul to make the PS3 version. DX9 commonality between PCs and the 360 makes porting to, fro, and in-between pretty simple as compared to the PS3. Being a PC dedicated dev though, I expect Monolith to include higher texture, graphics, and shader settings with of course the mandatory anti-aliasing, texture filtering, and resolution customization of PC versions of multi-platformers.

Just installed and played the demo, what a game! I was a massive fan of the original FEAR, and this doesn't disappoint on any front.

As far as performance goes, I have a G50Vt-X1 (P8400, 4GB DDR2-800, 512MB 9800M GS), and I ran the demo at 1366x768 with all settings On/Maximum, with 2xAA and 4xAF. In outdoor environments, I averaged 29-30FPS, indoors I averaged 41-43FPS. There is the odd stutter that I think has to do with the game itself, but considering the quality of some recent PC versions of games...I'll let it slide. Not a bad performance from the "entry-level" of the 9800M line.

Those easily disturbed beware, because from what I've seen so far this game is even more messed up than the first FEAR.

Haven't decided whether or not to get the PS3 or PC version, but the demo ran surprisingly well so the PC version is definitely competitive (which is rare, now).

As one who absolutely cannot watch horror movies, FEAR did not scare me one bit, absolutely not a scary game at all, though FEAR 2 looks to change that just by watching the game play videos, has an even more darker tone.

FEAR 1 failed to pull it off completely because the visuals weren't high quality enough, but I usually played with surround sound headphones in the dark and the audio was genuinely creepy. FEAR 2 fills in the gaps perfectly. With the recommended brightness setting, I was legitimately anxious to step forward into certain areas.

Should I attempt to play the original version of this game at all? Or just skip right ahead to the sequel?

Also, is this one made by the original developer or the publisher?

Took me a total of 15 minutes to play the entire demo (that is including taking screenshots and saving them using Paint).

Obviously it played very.. very... well. Loved every last bit of it.

I was going to post a few screenshots but using PrintScreen seemed to take a picture of my second monitor's wallpaper. So every shot has a building in it.
