Perhaps you are on DX11 mode? Can you tell me your avg FPS in Metro 2033?

I don't own the game, but I think either the game runs DX11 automatically upon detection of a DX11 card or by editing the .cfg file.

Just got FEAR 3 yesterday and I can assure you that it's not a hardware or Xfire problem. In fact, the game has annoying, already known to the devs, issues, such as those you described plus the most annoying; a jittering and stuttering bug as you strafe, no matter what you do and how you try set the cards or video options. I'm frequently checking the FEAR 3 official forum for updates and the devs said they're aware of all those problems and are already working on a patch.

Yes, when it detects a compatible cards, it runs DX10/11 in auto. However, I know that a few people have contained all the dx11 related bugs by forcing the game to start with dx9 in the game launch options.

    Run through this checklist:
    - ensure the computer isn't overheating
    - patch the game (prob not applicable since FEAR 3 is new)
    - ensure your GPU driver is up-to-date
    - search related forums to see if the issue is specific to the game

If this is a game specific issue, there isn't much you can do beyond disabling certain effects or changing the Direct X mode.

EDIT: Too late, didn't read the above.

:) no problem. It's all relatively new, and for what I have seen, the steam/FEAR 3 community is already raging over all the technical issues the game shows upon release.

Well i hope they release the patch soon, 'cause this is completelly unacceptable, They least they could have done is testing the game before release on a high end pc.

Yes, releasing the game with so many graphic bugs may be the result of a not thorough QA testing.

Well I just started the install, only one thing kinda confused me. Install says install cd key. My code was enough to fill 3 of the five boxes and it worked. Why would they ask you for five boxes worth of key when it's only 3?

I'm assuming this is an ati related problem as it runs fine on my nvidia gtx 580. Your system is definitely more than enough to run Fear 3.

I have absolutely the same Asus laptop and it works fine - 32-40 FPS on 1440x900, vsync off, everything very high and FXAA antialiasing.

You were right, it ran great and I was shocked and happy. Learned that the AI seems smarter and my usual run and gun maneuver needed to be adjusted. Blowing 2 clips on 2 enemies will run me out of ammo quick

Gonna play it a second time now, got into the first decent firefight and my FPS shot dropped to unplayable. Same with all other games I tried. I restarted and tried to figure out what caused it. Forgot about ASUS's horrible bios for for video downclocking @82c. If I wake up from sleep and it hits that it downclocks until reboot.

Oh well now I know to never sleep it then play 3d shooters.

Update: Man I have been away from single player shooters too long, I died on the easiest difficulty.

I'm glad for you man. Like many others, I'm experiencing a very annoying jittering and stuttering only when strafing, even if the fps are well above 60. It happens even disabling CF and trying any kind of setting/tweak you can think of. In addition, it's happening to quite a few people who have different configurations and GPUs - both single and dual cards. In fact, there have been so many complaints in the official and other forums that the developers are trying to come up with a solution, which I hope is going to be soon as I really like playing the FEAR franchise.

Hey man I hope they come out with a fix for you. I'm not far enough in to even give a mini review as i'm focusing on not being complete fail :D

But it is fun even if the creepy factor I was expecting really hasn't been much.

But if they do keep us updated! If a handful of people on NBR are having the problem then I'm sure when you mean alot of unhappy people, you mean ALOT.

It would help if we knew everyone on here who is playing FEAR 3, and how many have it as unplayable.

Thanks for your emotional support man :D

Anyways, for those affected by this issues, here's the last statement of the developers I found in the official FREAR 3 forum:

"I promise you this bug isn't due to lack of commitment to the PC. The unfortunate truth is that this bug slipped in near the end of development and only affects a small percentage of PCs. Out of a couple hundred test configurations, we only have one that exhibits this problem with any level of consistency. I know it's little consolation if you're one of the people experiencing it, but it is the difference between 200 configurations in a QA lab and tens of thousands of end-user machines the day you ship. Even so, we're kicking ourselves for missing it.

For the curious, the bug is due to physics and graphics running at different frequencies and in some scenarios they can drift out of sync. This causes the player physics (and consequently the camera) to not update for every rendered frame. That is why it is only seen in strafing and not free look.

We're working hard on a patch to fix this bug and to address as many complaints and requests from the forums as we can. Everyone at Day 1 is 100% committed to supporting FEAR 3 and the PC platform. Thanks to all of you for the feedback and for your patience! "

At least they are admitting it, unlike treyarch, they kept denying the issue with the multiplayer issues on black ops. I hope they release a patch soon, I'm so eager to play the game.

So, I believe that today the developers fixed the problem. As soon as I started Steam FEAR 3 downloaded and installed an update. After that I tried the game and the stuttering/jittering seems completely gone. All of those who got that problem might want to check it out.

    Ciao

According to what devs say in the official forum, there should be a more substantial patch coming this weekend - I think that today's update was focused on the jittering that has prevented so many, me included, from playing the game.

So, was your problem low fps in both single and cf configuration? Does this happen with other games too? In case you're experiencing this only with FEAR 3 there must be something else wrong man, as I can still play the game quite smoothly even with a single card at high settings. Make sure you've got everything set up right: updated drivers, CCC set to default values, v-sync on. Maybe the game files got somehow corrupted - it happens - and you may want to check this out: Steam > right click on FEAR 3 > properties > Local Files and click on Verify integrity of game cache. That will check the game configs, re-update the patch and load the video settings to its defaults. You may also want to try D3DOverrider. Add the game on the list, leave v-sync as it is and set Force Triple Buffering on.

    EDIT: UPDATE:
PATCH REISSUED LAST NIGHT. MOST PROBLEMS SHOULD BE FIXED NOW.
