I currently only have FEAR version 1.0. I don't have a fast enough internet connection to install the newest updates without waiting for days. Is there any way to make FEAR have widescreen resolution without updating it? Also what other good features comes with the updates?

i know for sure on the updates its mostly online maps and patches for online, but I am not sure if there are many Patches to make the game run better. I used to play on version 1.0 but now i am on version 1.4 and i see no difference in performance.

    Yes. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR

    Open settings.cfg

    find "ScreenWidth" & "ScreenHeight"

Enter desired values. (1680 and 1050 for instance)

    Close

Play, but don't go to display settings in game anymore.

1.08 brings you widescreen, and remote bombs can be picked up if you haven't used it. (at least in Fear Combat).

    Cheers,

    Ivan

Unfortunately no, updates are going to be big file packs.

I know that up to 1.07 they were still fixing bugs and minor performance issues with certain cards. Past that it's all multiplayer fixes and extra maps, etc.

But you can use a download manager like getright and this link to pull the full update a piece at a time, shouldn't take an incredibly long time even on a 56k modem honestly, if you spread it out over a day or two.
    ftp://ftp.vugames.com/pub/sierra/fear/updates/fear_update_en_100-107_108.exe

or if you happen to be using a different version or language pack, here is the navigation page. Make sure you choose the 1.0 to 1.8 update.

otakuoverlord that patch is only from version 1.07 to version 1.08... To get the update from 1.0 to 1.7 is through the in-game download module type thingy. And thanks Ikovac.
