Ok I just d/l FEARCombat into my Vista Home Premium computer and it wants to install DirectX 9.0c.

The problem is I already have DirectX 10 software installed into my computer. What is up with that?

I already checked FEAR installation program to run in WinXp compatibility mode...

Same thing with me but I just let them install it because in the end....when I checked my directx version....it is still version 10. So I don' think you should worry about that.

Yeah, it doesn't hurt to install a new version of directX. It doesn't install over your DirectX version, it installs in addition to it. Microsoft releases a new version of DirectX9.0c practically every few months, so instead of just hoping that you have the updated version, many games include the DirectX installer as part of its Setup. If you have the latest version already, it probably won't install anything at all; it's just a measure to avoid tech-support problems.

The game came out in late 2005. The 1.08 Patch adds widescreen support.

Install it. Vista has both DX9 and 10 running side by side. And as said above, Microsoft updates bits of DX (or technically it isn't DX, but a small utility library for DX) every two months. Easiest way to get those updates is to just let the games install DX when they ask.

I actually just found the missing dll on Internet and put in the right place. Works like charm.

But Jalf said it right. (as usual) :)
