    Hi there:

    I have an xps1330, with an 8400GS with 128 ddr3 ram.

I play at 1024x780, everything on minimum, and with this configuration i get a very solid 50-60 fps when i start the game.

However, after 15 min or so my fps get limited to 30. I don't know why this is happening, it is very weird, and the difference between getting 30 and 60 is very very notorious.

I have powermizer disabled, 179.13 drivers, 4gb ram, and the copper mod (temperatures are not an issue, when playing i max out at 70-72 degrees, which is very reasonable for this card)

What may be going on? Other games such as guitar hero 3 don't show this issue....

    any help is appreciated

Maybe thermal throttling is set below that temperature? Your signs are pretty similar to throttling issues...

GPU-Z should show if your clock rates are lower after stressing your GPU.

Just out of curiosity, are you using an external Logitech keyboard or mouse with the game?

How high do other games get... as your GPU may have a lower max temp before down clocking

That would be due to the driver..

go to start > control panel > hardware and sound > device manager > Human Interface Devices

now at the point, there should be some misc. HID that should be disabled. for me, i right click on every HID and went to properties. clicked on the driver tab and clicked driver details. if you get a box saying" no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device" disable that HID. This small fix fixed my framerate drop and hopefully it will work for you.

Expanding on what Pulp asked; if you're using a Logitech mouse than it can cause the framerate to significantly drop after a few minutes.

This was my reply to a similar thread (explains the solution):

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I had that problem with my Logitech VX Revolution mouse, but solved it by going into Device Manager and disabling the two 'HID-Compliant Device' entries (under 'Human Interface Devices'). There are some others similarly named, so make sure you only disable the ones with exactly that name.

I can still use the mouse in the game (only uses basic functions of the mouse) and then just re-enable them after playing to get the extra features back. I made a shortcut to Device Manager in the Quick Launch Toolbar to make it easier to access.

I found the solution here on the Sierra Community Forums.

I just wanted to let you know that I have been having close to the same problem while playing FEAR. I have found out what was causing it. For me it was the mouse and keyboard causing the fps to drop. I know this for a fact because while playing FEAR, when the fps dropped I unplugged both the keyboard and mouse and the fps when back up.

OMG, thanks for the help Steven. I was using my m15x and could not get why the fps would just drop massively and as soon as I disabled to two hid compliant choices and played again, it was perfect. +rep
