just a quick question - how is the fear online fanbase these days? i played the game before and loved it and now i want to play it again but before i buy it i want to make sure there are people actually playing. what is the server/player population like ?

F.E.A.R. (Multiplayer) is actually 100% free. Just sign up for a free product key and download the installation package.

i played yesterday for the first time on my new laptop. It was amazing, lol. There are definitely still a lot of people playing. Go get a free CD key and start playing. Btw, you gotta update the game after you get it because they released a patch that fixes some stuff.

i have yet to play online but i do play regularly locally with my friends from work. and it is outstanding. i just wish it would run better on my computer. i dont know why it runs so awful. i think its cause i have little free memory
-
it should run fine, just but it on max settings and set AA to 2x while turning shadows off and soft shadows off
-
If you ask me its just a shame to turn off shadows with a game like this, MP or not. Just my 2 cents...
-
Yeah, it's a lot of fun to play online. My friend has it on the Xbox 360 and I loved the multiplayer.
-
extremely awesome... especially for a completely free game! and a lot of people are occupying the servers
-
how much does vista slow FEAR down? i had it running nice back with xp and 1 gig of mem.
-
i run vista with a 8600m gs and it is perfect!!

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Yeah it runs extremely well on my rig. Everything on the highest (not sure what AA and AF I had it to) @ 1600x1200 resolution.

i play the game in 1440*900 with most settings to max. Only volumetric lights are turned off and some settings i've put to medium. I get 0% between 0 and 25 fps, 5% between 25 and 40 fps and 95% higher than 40fps. I defenitly need that in multiplayer because at some points frames can drop from 100 to 60 or even 40 and you'll notice that.

I play f.e.a.r combat occasionally and I love it. Plenty of people to interact with.

Try playing at NBR Control server. There are also very comprehensive player statistics tables for all visitors of the server, which makes the gaming a bit more interesting and is propably the reason why the server has recently become quite popular. Player statistics are available @ http://www.gamestats.sail.hr
Or maby you even want to join our own NBR clan (Notebook Raiders). There's currently 11 members and some are very skilled players. Check out the clan forums @ http://www.thegamebooks.com/*nbr*-fear-clan-f24.html
Some of them can also be reached through xfire: http://www.xfire.com/clans/nbr/
My player name in the game is [NBR]Vibrator.Shoot you soon...
