So, I own a copy of Final Fantasy 7 for the PC and can't get it to work on my Vista laptop at all. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this? I tried to even run it in XP compatibility mode and still nothing

How would I go about doing that on a Windows 7 machine?

Make a Win98 VM in Virtualbox. That's the easiest way.

there are some exe modifiers around the web, I would look into those, there are also hacks to allow for gpu improvements, like AA and so forth. FF8 looked wonderful when I applied 16 AA and 16 AF

this site has all this hacks

Custom graphics driver for FF7/FF8 [v0.7.11b]

The PC version of this game just sucks. You would almost be better off with a PS2 emulator and the PS2 version.

You will have to find some patches to make it work with Vista/7

If you have a PS3 you can purchasse it on PSN, I believe I paid 4.99USD or 9.99USD, not too sure, but it works flawlessly this way.

On the emulators a lot of the visual effects and overlays -- like the pointers and such didn't show up when I tried, even with recommended plugins etc.

PS3, if you have one, is a much easier way to go about it. And yes FF7 is one of the best games ever made.

Yeah PS1 thats what I meant, and it just does not run well.

Low res, low options, lots of issues.

On an emulator it just works for me fine.

I don't recall the game looking that good on the PC. Are you using a high-resolution model mod?

There's a way to put the downloaded version on a psp as well, so if you're looking for another portable option...

I downloaded the game before which had a couple of OS patches to make it run, if you have a legit version of the game maybe look up some of the less legit sources which will likely have links to the patches.
