I noticed this on my boyfriends ALX too. He has the same resolution as you (1920x 1200). He uses a single ATI 5970 with the beta drivers from Dell's website. Maybe its a driver issue?

I will tell him to try it in windowed mode.

My GPU's only use like 30% both and it's laggy, everything set to max, with 2x AA, might be the server/ connection code not optimized that much yet, also they had problems for the start, still some work to do there. But i don't know my cards are only at 30% max. and i get like 35fps if i just stand around in Gridania.

Yup same goes for me. I tried listening to my GPUs' fan to kick in but it's not. Hopefully they'll fix this in the future.

Yeah, not a real crossfire or/and ati in general support yet as it looks like.

    Small edit :)
Ok, here we go, i did the following:

Uninstall Catalyst via Programs, Chose Express Uninstall, Remove the Software and Reboot when prompted, Start Windows normally or if you don't have a clean windows install, use safe mode if you BSOD, imortant is that you get your system back to VGA Display Driver only, use Driver Sweeper, Analyze ATI Display Drivers, Clean, Reboot when prompted. Download ATI Catalyst 10.8 and Crossfire App Profiles 10.8a , Install both ( I installed App profiles first), Reboot when prompted. (By the way, i did not even have to set the workaround)

You should be good to go, i didn't change that much in CCC (only triple buffering) and the game runs more or less smooth outside Gridania, if you experience lag it might be more from connection, as it's pretty low and there are lots of people testing. Anyway, i can even play it on TV 46" Sony Bravia, and it looks awesome.

Settings in ffxivconfig.exe for TV Mode 1080p (should be not too different from 1200p):

    Video Settings
    Display Mode: Full Screen
    Windows Size: 1920x1080
    Multisampling: No AA
    Buffer Size: Resolution
    Shadow Detail: Highest

    Graphics
    Ambient Occlusion: Not marked
    Depth of Field: Not marked
    Disable cutscene effects: Not marked
    Texture Quality: High
    Texture Filtering: High

    Catalyst Settings 3D
    Standard: Balanced
    AA: Use Application controlled
    AA-Mode: Multi-Sampling-AA
    AF: Use Application controlled
AI: Standard or Advanced, which one you like better
    Mipmap: Highest
All: V.Sync off, if not handled by application o|x|o|o
    Triple Buffering: Marked

PS: Though the GPU's BOTH still only used like 35% load only, you could actually feel that it was smoother by running wildly around and moving around the camera (playing with gamepad). I'm sure if we get a fix for this, with both gpu's working at 100%, we can enable some more settings. But with the settings given above, the game should be very playable.

Update: So, i tried to run the game with CrossFire disabled, and the game run exactly the same imo, GPU at 60%, i don't understand this lol

    i can't, i get an error with atiumdag.dll ....

if i install 10.8 catalyst drivers, ff14 works, but i get black screen on logon....

hey guys if ur having problems running in 1920 x 1200 this is the ssetting for it to run ok but not elite playable though good i say 8/10 rate lol

    Ambient occulation off
    Depth field off
    Shadows in game off
    Tex high
    Tex filter very high
    AA off
    everything else on default
this is for ffxiv Options not ccc i tested diff setting for over 2 hrs an di have to say what made the biggest diffrence was the AA. ALso i think grimfan mention this but a Gamepad makes this game so much better this is one mmo where gamepads are awesome i use to play ffxi on 360 alot of running and u can access everything with the gamepad unless u need to type. I have an Afterglow AX.1 looks just like the xbox controller but its clear and glows its awesome http://yfrog.com/8bphotocoj lol Download drivers from microsoft works great

There is a mixed feeling in regards to computer requirements on the game. Despite the minimum requirements listed, players are having a hard time running this game even on fairly decent rigs. Is the game expected to go through further optimization prior to release?

For the betaversion it might be because we have several check routines in the game that might be causing some of the performance-related issues. This should be improved when the game is released. It also could be something specific to the persons PC setup. THere's a lot of different graphics cards among other things so we're trying to solve it one by one.

Finally, the Square Enix team would like to say that they really appreciate the support from fans in the western region and want everyone to enjoy Final Fantasy XIV as it's going gold.
