It's entertainment, no different than watching a war movie or TV series.
I like to understand the whole aresenal of military weapons. It's fun to see how the guns actually handle, or on the flipside, if the guns handle like they should in real life. It gives people an "out" to take out aggressions, but more importantly, have fun.
It lets you live an alternate reality, something that you would probably never do in real life, and nobody gets hurt.
But based on your original post, expect it to get closed pretty quickly since it's political based. -
Now in hindsight, thinking how this could go out of hand, yeah maybe better if I didn't do this thread. No delete button though...

I think most people don't really care whether its a demon, cyborg, zombie or human. They just want to have fun. I'm a huge fan of doom; but had doom's monster sprites been all humans instead of demons I think I would still have liked it as much.
I do agree, however, that some people might be as creepy as you mentioned; though that's not really limited to games like COD or BF. I personally see a lot of weird people no matter what game I play. -
I'd much rather those weird, creepy people be playing games than amusing themselves doing other things, abusing animals or doing who knows what.
ziddy, this thread could get out of hand, but that's what mods are forNot your fault, and it is an interesting thing to discuss.

In before close or delete. I don't think a videogame can affect a person's behavior by itself. There are other, much more important factors like family and surroundings (such as rural vs urban surroundings or different countries). -
It's good you think that. All valid research out there agrees with you, when taken in proper context
Lots of badly designed and debunked studies out there that claim video games make people more violent. PBS has a neat article on it:

Nice article. I personally didn't know about 5 and 6; but yeh, this topic revolves around all the media influence nonsense and the points on the list, particularly the last point, I think.

I think gaming (and movies, and toys, and food) can have an influence on a young mind. But not if the kid is well rounded. That's where parents, family, and peers come in. Some 10 or 11 year old playing MW2 all day 12 hours a day could get a bit delusional. I think once you're in your late teens and into adulthood, it's less likely. But that's all speculation based on one person's opinion and observation. And we all know what they say about opinions...
