Hi, first of all here are my specs..

    Aspire 5520

    CPU: AMD Athion 64x2 Dual-Core processor TK-55 (1.8GHz, 2 x 256 kb L2 Cache)
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
    Mem: 2GB DDR2
Gfx card: NVIDIA GeForce 7000M TurboCache
Display: 15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite LCD (8ms/220-nit)
    HDD: 250GB

... Would anyone know why after playing CS:S for around 2 minutes my fps just drops and it is basically unplayable? It stays as the bad fps aslong as I continue playing and happens everytime I play. Thats about all, thanks.

You sound like you're overheating. Get a notebook cooler and some airflow while gaming. That should help, somewhat anyway.

search it up on google and follow the instructions ( its a tweak that makes counterstrike: source play way better)

I used to get 20 fps on 1280 x 768, now 40- 60 fps. But i can only play that for 20 min. then it drops to about 25-35

Hmm its definetely not overheating, I just tried playing while holding it in the air with my fan on and it still did the fps after 2 minutes. The laptops fan itself didnt turn on nor was it hot at all. I'll try that caseys config hopefully it'll do something

well just copy and paste the entire config into notepad. Then save it as autoexec.cfg in the folder it tells u to. Then if u want to be really advanced u can use those lanch codes. Then restart the game and it should show a better performance

If that all doesnt work then reinstall the entire game. Might have just been a bad install

Does this automatically start when I enter CS:S or do I have to type autoexec or something like that?

Well... reinstalling didn't help =/ Still starts with the huge fps drop about 2 minutes after playing. Anything else you can think of causing the problem?

well what surface r u resting ur laptop on, and u could be blocking vents, background programs and if its none of that set ur laptop on an angle to make good air flow, REINSTALL DIVER?. Does this only happen with counterstrike?

I just rest my laptop on a flat table. I've had it lifted into the air with the fan on though so I doubt that is the reason why. I don't no of any background programs.. I usually restart before playing without loading anything else. I've only seen it happen with counterstrike but back when I had WoW it would cut its fps in half every 20 minutes for a couple of minutes.

It really sounds like an overheating issue. Are your vents clogged with dust or debris or lint? I bet they are: open up your case and blow some compressed air in there to get the crap out.

Do you feel lots of airflow out of your vents when playing games? You should feel the fans strongly, if you don't they are clogged.

When I play other games I can hear and feel the fan working pretty hard but only in CSS it doesnt sound like its working hard at all. I feel around the vents but they are still just average temperature. I'm going to play again and watch how hot my GPU gets to see if thats the issue.

Well after using a program I got called CPUID Hardware Monitor I had a max of 94 degrees celcius after playing for about 5 minutes.. dropped into the
70's afterwards so I think I need to clean my fan out. I dont understand why the fan didnt start to work harder though...

omfg I'm having this same problem. I've had it since nov, the laptop that is, and its always run it amazingly smooth!

LATELY. I play for 2-3 minutes and it runs great and BOOM. The FPS goes to sh** and I have to exit out and start it back up after a few minutes.

And it's not a bad install, it does that on every game I have. Including WOW, CSS, Half life, halo, Hellgate London.

Could it possibly be a cooling issue like everyone is saying? I'll go out and buy a cooling stand but don't really want to spend the money if I don't have to.

    Thanks guys

okay so i just used that program and at an IDLE my gpu is at 79 C....

after playing a game for 2 minutes it shoots up to 90+ how can the computer still function at over 170 degrees F?!?!

should i just turn off my comp and clean it out and buy a cooling mat or what?

i never feel it hot though, so its weird.

yeah i got a cooling pad the other day. its kind of small and my laptop doesn't fit all the way on it, but now my gpu is down to 64 C and no more lag.

i also bought some canned air and popped open the bottom, there was a little bit of dust/debree in there but not really.

    :)

Good news, I got an air compressor and used it on the fan a bit. Not too much dust came out but it was enough to stop the lag, been playing for over 3 hours now and still no lag so its all good. Thanks for the help gabesy!
