I keep having some troubles with my fps in games. The framerate is either at a normal rate (around 100 in counter strike source, 60 in call of duty 4), but then suddenly drops to a very low one (around 25 in counter strike and even lower in call of duty). For some reason it is either stuck around the normal one, then jumps to the low one, jumps back to the normal one, etc..

Seeing as I meet the specs needed for these games ( geforce 7600 go, 2 gig ram, core 2 duo), and I actually get the normal rate most of the time, I think this is not hardware related. Therefore I tried installing new drivers (the 156.87 one for win xp 32 bit for example). Yet, this did not help me at all, it seems to have even lowered my fps.

I've tried turning off anti-aliasing, vsync and anistropical filtering, all to no prevail. Can anyone help me on finding out what is wrong and what to do next?

    Thanks in advance.

^ I would bet that your CPU is throttling... google core 2 duo throttling and you will find a hotfix and other programs like RMclock to stop the throttling. Good luck, Happy Holidays!

It gave me a slight fps increase, but doesn't fix the issue with very low - very high fps, thanks for trying though.

When I play UT 3, I get a constant 60 fps when I play, but when my GPU reaches around 93°, it slows down till it's a couple degrees lower, it speeds up again till it reaches 93° again, ...

My laptop is a fujitsu siemens amilo pi 1556, it has a built in "underclock" function. Maybe it goes into the underclock function whenever my gpu reaches a certain temperature? Is there any way to shut this off? BTW: my slowdown treshold is supposed to be 100°, not 93

Edit: my fan doesn't go to full speed like it used to, even when I play games, anyway to force it to go on maximum speed?

Im having REAL trouble even playing ut3 on my 8600m. Its by far the worst crap ever released by Nvidia. I dont get how hard it can be to make such simple things work?! I get fine FPS in games, but the stuttering or lag og whatever people call it, is unbearable !! if i stand still in ut3 looking at an object spinning, it doesnt spin in a fine circel, it sort of jumps in steps instead like someone was pushing it... impossible to play! :/

well, I play UT3 usually at over 70+ FPS,1024, all settings at 2 ... and sometimes it goes down to 20 . Which is absolutely ridiculous. There is just too much of a jump from max to min, but I have not found a sollution. So I really doubt it`s because of the GPU,mine is 7950GTX ... and still does that.

Well in ut3 case the game itself might be crap due to coding to ps3 originally and converting to PC. True.

But belive me, the 8600 gpu (som has also reported it on 8800) does things its not supposed to !! and a really really bad way.

Inquistion...It still sounds like you are having throttling issues when your CPU gets too hot. google "RMclock"> read the forums of how to Underclock your CPU's voltage and still keep the power, then it will:

    1. not get TOO damn hot!
    2. NOT throttle
    3. You will not be forced to throw your fist into the wall each time your FPS drops to 1/2 frames-per-second.

If you need help doing this just read the "HOW TO" or IM me and I'll help you.

    :)

BTW I had the U.S. version of your laptop "everex Stepnote xt5000t" and I had to do this .

If you're still looking at this thread and you have the xt5000t, check hardforum.com or the everex forums-you'll find your answers there.
