Quick run down. Every 3 seconds I get a drop in fps. No matter what the 3d application. In game its from 60 to 10 then back to 60 every 3 seconds. In ATI tool it even does it.

It started with Assassin's Creed, which you can see my thread here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=427407

Now after testing and doing everything recomended I find its not just limited to that game.
Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, Day of Defeat, CounterStrike, and even ATI tools 3d view.

Short video of ATI tool doing it.

maybe a power saving utility? Is there a virus scan or something like an active firewall running in the background?

Avast is running, but it does it with it turned off as well. I have windows firewall on.

No power saving that I am aware of, I have everything I can think of set to performance.

Just wanted to update this...Im still lost but I somewhat fixed the issue.

SO the first throttle starts at 74*c when the gpu fan kicks on high. Then it doesnt start again until it gets to the 79* mark where it continues to do so.

However, I fixed the issue and arose another.
In Rivatuner I made my system force detect a 7900 GT/GTO and all throttle issues have disappeared, however, in game I now run at a temp of 87*c.

Kinda hot if you ask me...

Tried another set of drivers same thing.

Setup as 7900 Go GS, fps fluctuates at 74* when fan kicks on first and 79* where it continues to do so until the end of time.

Setup at 7900 GT/GTO no issues of fluctuations, but I do however get a loss of performance. My assumption is that since the card runs hotter than 79* its not fluctuating.

What could cause this? I guess a better question would be, how can I change my set up where it would run at say 82-84* instead of 79* so this is fixed.
