Hi all, im fairly new to posting and am using this as a real last resort as i am out of solutions and this is actually tearing me up inside as i cant fix it.

i go to play counter strike 1.6 quite and old game and not very up to date with todays 1st person shooters, and when i boot the game up and update my config, i type "fps_max 100" which would normally unlock my fps which would be fine but im stuck on 30 -40 FPS which makes the game un playable.

when i load counter strike source up, a much more resource hungry game i do the same commands and get around 299 FPS which i find really odd.

Can any one help me fix my FPS issues with CS 1.6

    Things ive tried already,

Full install of windows and latest graphics driver, updated my graphics settings in the gui, disabled vertical sync.

    My Specs are

    Alienware MX17 laptop
    Intel R Core 2 quad cpu Q9000 @2 GHz (1066 MHz (Intel Quad-Core))
    Dual graphic drivers
    2 x GTX 260M
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400 G

there must be a simple solution and i look forward to trying your suggestions thanks

yeah, it seems fine if i run it in discreet graphics mode, but only problem with that is i have to disable the hybrid graphics from bios then if i want to go on to one of the other games i have to reboot to get the hybrid graphics back, it used to work fine with all enabled before :(

I think your cards aren't reaching full clocks. Run something like MSI Afterburner with the OSD displaying your clocks. I'm betting that you're running 3D clocks only, not full bore.

Had a similar problem when playing the first FEAR. I wasn't hitting my full gaming speed on a GTX 260m.

LOL you know it's basically 1.5?
I've played a lot 1.5 and 1.6 and at first i didn't like 1.6 that much but it's really much better than 1.5. And also you won't find any players online so it's really no alternative.

Dig around in options and look for the OSD (on-screen display). Set it up so that it display core clocks while you game. While gaming, check to see if your card is clocking up to its full speed when playing.
