Hi All, I just used console to show FPS and was surprised to see I was only getting between 30-45 FPS(as low as 13/high as 60) I even tried dropping the settings to all minimums to see if it helps and the increase was marginal.
My vid card is set to maximum performance and I do not have AA enabled. I am using the computer while plugged in to ensure no power management features would cause problems.
Any suggestions? The computer is brand new and the specs are as such.
Asus a8jm
CPU: T2400 Core Duo (1.83 GHz)
RAM: 2GB DDR2 667MHz (Originally came with 1GB, did an upgrade)
HD: 100 GB 5400 RPM
GPU: NVidia Go 7600 512Mb dedicated memory
Screen: 14.1 WXGA (1280 x 800)
OS: Windows XP Home
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you defragged your hard-drive?
How is the CPU activity?
Can you do the 3DMark05 test?
You can see whether everything is alright or it's just the game.[You should score around 3900-4200] -
what drivers are you using?
-
I ran 3dmark05 and got a score of 3849. I have defraged my drive numerous times but am stuck at 9% fragmentation(could this be due to my recent conversion to NTFS?). My fps seems to be slightly better(around 40) with settings at recommended levels, however most post I have seen show I should be closer closer to 80-100 FPS for DoD:source. My driver version is as follows
Forceware version-84.26
Video Bios version: 5.73.22.16.19
Driver version:8.4.2.6 -
Im just curious if ur using too high a resolution, if u drop it a couple notches it may run better, also i'd check ur graphic card properties and maybe change it from a quality setting to balanced, or all the way to performance, could be the drivers as well as notebook drivers are manufacturer specific, and are not well updated by the manufacturer, if thats the case, get hacked drivers from www.tweaksrus.com. If u have vista, its probably vista's poor graphic card drivers and little can be done to remedy this until better drivers are released. If its an older game, right click it, select properties, select compatabilty and check the os it was designed for, apply, then ok, then run it. Most older games are run through an emulation Layer on vista, which can effect performance, (I believe its all games pre- DirectX 9.0). Good luck

I am running at 1024x768 which should be fairly standard. I have ran it at my native resolution with similar results. The pc activity doesn't seem to be very high(however I don't know how to check it without minimizing the game). I know the source engine wouldn't be able to use both cores, but my CPU Hopefully isn't the bottleneck. I have changed the image quality settings to performance and will test it to see the result.I set most settings to application controlled.

Yeah you should definitely be able to play near max settings. I nearly can with my w3j w/ 1 gig of ram.

Do you know how many FPS you were getting in the game?
-
that's really weird... 84.26 should be fine. i'm running 84.69 from laptopvideo2go. i have basically same specs as you and i run it at 1280x800 with everything on high, no color correction, no vsync, 4x AF, 2x FSAA and i average 84 FPS with source test. Usually don't drop below 35 FPS with 25 ppl in a server with lots of action.
