I've got Fable: The Lost Chapters running on the notebook below(sig) and the gameplay is ok but the menu screens run really laggy. I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem but don't know if it could be the nvidia drivers or not. I'm currently running the 175.80 version. Any opinions?

    Download:

    1) nHancer 2.4.2 - new edition out just recently. Its loads of preloaded profiles that are configured perfectly for systems.

    2) 177.83 drivers from L2G, there's PPU support built into the GPU (Physics Processing Unit - like the Ageia stuff that was bought by Nvidia)

The menus and quest card screens are still sluggish but gameplay remains perfect on maxed out settings.

I also just noticed that it does it on the experience screen and all trading/buy/sell screens.

Ok... I'm not very familiar with this game but could there be something else running in the background when the game is running? I've had problems with that kind of stuff before.

Tried that already too, even went and cleared processes but the in-game menus are still very sluggish no matter what graphics settings I have it on. For now I've given up trying because I've tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to work. I recently ordered a T9300 to go in here so maybe that will help this one out some but I doubt it. That T9300 will be sweet! Been waiting to get it.

Well take this as a fact if you want.. Most X360 ONLY games that are ported to the PC are very sluggish.

I got the same problem with my 8600m GT - didn't get Fable to run good at all. I'm gonna check out nHancer 2.4.2! Don't know that prog - but it sounds good :)

It ran absolutely perfect on my desktop and nothing is overheating. Gpu is good and the air coming out of the processor fan is not even warm. Maybe(?) the processor isn't strong enough for the menus? No sure why that would be a problem with a 1.83Ghz C2D but I'll find out if that was the case in the next day or two when I get my T9300 ;) Been waiting to finally be able to order it and now I have. That's the only thing I can think of because I've used different drivers and I know it's not the video card. And like I said the actual gameplay is buttery smooth maxed out but just on the item menus/shop menus and those similar times when it's not actual gameplay.

Well it seems to run smoother once I downgraded the video drivers to the 174.82

Try running it in DX9 (if its a DX10 game).

I was having a similar problem with Crysis in DX10 switching to DX9 solved alot of the problems in the menus. Problem: Click areas not corresponding to links...

I'm pretty sure it's a dx9 game it's from 2005 and it has the logo games for xp. Crysis works well on mine dx10 and dx9.

I have no problem running it on my laptop. Everything is pretty smooth with dx10. I just have issues with messages popping up about me needing to increase my RAM or increase my virtual memory. Anyone know why?

Try closing everything else prior to playing the game. I use a program - SmartClose. This will get you a lot more RAM and CPU performance.

I never have anything up when I play games. I thought that could be an issue as well, but it hasn't helped. I spoke with a rep from geek squad last night and he said that I should go to best buy and get it optimized for gaming because he wasn't too sure what the deal was. The part that gets me is that I can run crysis and the message doesn't pop up, and I know that crysis requires alot more compared to fable.

That's probably a waste of time.

If you can't find it on-line I doubt any store will have a magic wand to solve software issues. They'll probably try to sell you more RAM. Anything they use is probably just a google away.

So is it strange that the message won't pop up when I am starting crysis? Could it be that fable has problems running on 64-bit vista?

I'm pretty certain this is just an issue with Fable + GeForce 8-series cards. It is a (somewhat) old game and it was never known for being particularly bug-free. I get the same behavior on my desktop. Fortunately we GeForce 8 owners don't seem to be saddled with the "invisible text when AA is applied" problem.

great to hear someone else is using that program aswell! I think its a great, simple program. Are their anyway of optimizing it? Or is it fully optimized already?
