Specifically looking at Sager 2090 vs Dell m1530
Either would have 2.2 GHZ core 2 duo, 160GB 7200rpm SATA HD, 3GBs RAM DDR2 667, 15.4 inch screen, running XP Pro.
What do you guys think??? what is the real difference between:
nVidia 8600m GT 256mb GDDR3 and 8600m GT 512 DDR2??? Purpose of laptop would be to multi-task applications at work, running recent latest games at decent settings would be a nice bonus.
Thanks

512 ram is kinda useless unless ur running it at ultra high res...go with the M1530...its better in every way

If these two cards were run at the same clocks the performance would be the same. However, the gddr3 not only has a higher memory clock by default but you can also overclock it. The max I can get from my gddr2 is 575 and thats with a house fan blowing directly on the gpu under the notebook. In short, the gddr3 has more headroom for overclocking and already has the gddr2 beat at stock.

Even with the memory differnence???
It's 512mb DDR2 vs 256mb GDDR3. I had guessed that the 512 would make up for the better performance with the GDDR3, I have been told that DDR2 will perform approx 20% less than that of GDDR3.
Thank you for your replies Swoley and Rock -
nope, man. go for 256 gddr3 like everyone else said. u won't notice a big of a difference with 512mb. gddr3 is faster than ddr2

Thanks, you guys are awesome.
Leaning towards the m1530...hate to say it, Had a horrible experience when Dell first released XPS desktops several years ago. -
hold on, doesn't 1530 have a ddr2 version? btw, i think it'd be a waste getting xps m1530...imho
