The F-35B has VTOL. The A+C don't (nor do they have any other type of thrust vectoring to my knowledge)

In flight thrust vectoring appears to have been dropped to achieve lower RCS and weight.

Here's the F-35B demonstrating its TVC for the rear exhaust:

Hmmm, haven't been keeping up. Last I knew they had thrust vectoring but apparently not.

I am guessing the jsf manuverability is somewhere in the late f-16 class? Probably with f18 like high aoa performance? In close combat I guess ef2k, rafale or any modern flanker would outclass the jsf. Of course these are all asumptions...

Not a big fan of the jsf personally.

Also it looks like the jsf is using the yak-141 VTOL system or something very similar to it. I would not be afraid to say lmco copied the yakovlev's design perhaps with some modern improvements?

the jsf is a pile of trash created by lm to keep money flowing into it's black hole.
many more maneuverable and worthy fighters out there already....su-27 ?

I play many flight sims, like FSX and Falcon 4 and IL 2 which are my main ones that i play and i am going into the U.S Marines to fly their helicopters after high school, at leat i hope to anyways. i have to say that falcon 4 is very realistic in terms of aircraft operation like starting up the aircraft, selecting weapons and acuiring targets etc. it takes like a dozen buttons and knobs that need to be activated in the ****pit in order to start the aircraft, and there are dozens of different acronyms that you need to remember in order to under stand what weapons and radar you are using. I agree that lomac has better graphics but it lacks the in depth aircraft operation to really be realistic.

I agree that F-16s are small because during the summers i live next to Edwards AFB and they fly F-16s out daily and they always fly super low and fly circles around the city and make lots of noise and drop flares. They are hard to spot on sunny days do to their paint job, and imo f-16's are one of the loudest jets out there. I seen the B1B , F-15s, and F-22s fly around out here and they are loud but imo f-16 beat them all. I heard them so much last summer that i can tell a jet if its an F-16 or not by the sound.

Actually, that VTOL technology was bought in some extend from yakovlev's design center in early 90-s. But the main thing in this system is materials, so it is wrong to say that it was copied.
Yak-38 and Yak-141 are both ugly freaks, and useless in case of combat effectiveness. "Thanks" to them, Soviet Union didn't recieve normal aircraft-carriers, just strange mutants like that:

Yes, I'd put it in the ~F-16 class as far as maneuverability.

I'd also agree that if a Gen 4+ fighter somehow survived BVR, negated stealth/found the F-35, then closed to WVR, then it might have the advantage ;)

I am not sure the F-35 is all that stealthy comparing to the F-22. I recall reading some articles a long time ago that it's a fairly compromised design as far as stealth goes and that again a modern phased array flanker will have no problem engaging the F-35 BVR and then using it's energy/speed and maneuverability advantage to finish the F-35 off. And as the flanker gets closer to the F-35 it's chances of surviving begin to decrease exponentially. This is all of course hypothetical plane on plane based argument and doesn't account for the real world logistics with awacs and pilot training and total number of aircraft available.

Well the F-32 was the competitor of F-35 during the JSF competition and well the F-35 performed much better though I don't understand how it is supposed to act as aerial ground support and replace planes like the A-10 which is basically a flying tank....

    Agreed.

Isn't he JSF supposed to replace Air Force and Navy aircraft? *** single engine for a Naval aircraft? Bad idea.

My favorite is the F/A-18 E/F. One bada ss flaming dart.

Agree, that is weird. Also it seems like F35 doesn't have air-to-air superiority to the 4+ generation, and stealth doesn't work against modern anti-aircraft systems. Policy of compromises can be helpful to achive a commercial success, but it is not good for the battle quality of the plane.

What is funny is that they tried thrust vectoring on the F-15 and F-16 with the F-15 MTD and the F-16 Vista and from what I read they liked what they saw, hell they even modified a f16 to a full delta wing (F16-XL) that basically allowed it to supercruise like the f22 and carry more payload but well those improvement were never implemented IRL.... I guess it is the time of armed stealth UAVs... Meh.

    Hello!
I was in the business trip in Russia, in Krasnodar BTW, so familiar places from lock on :). And i was lucky, i bought DCS: KA-50 game yestarday, even official date is 17 of october. Just installed and launched it first time (you have a choice of traditional star force protection or internet activation). PDF manuals are simply huge and detailed. Avionics is probably the core of the game. You can chose between realistic and player modes. I watched one track on my dv5t with nvidia 9600m gt on medium settings. Sometimes it was slight laggs, but generally it is well playable. I think on low settings it will be no problem at all.
There was a mission of ground support. Communication with the friendly ground force is realised.
So, my first impression: in case of realism it is a new benchmark (flight model, avionics etc)
Combat realisation is much more improved compare to lock on. BTW there is a soldiers now in the game. So, if you like air-to-ground battles, you will love the game.
OK, i think it is time to start an education program :). 22 lessons in game are included.

F16 is an old platform and since the driving for future was stealth the idea was that all those modifications wouldn't really make the basic F-16 competitive due non stealthy nature. Even a fully tricked out F-16XL + TVC nozzle would not be a competitive aircraft to Su-30MKI and probably cost more. At this moment in time the Su-27 platform is really capable of outshining anything flying expect the F-22 but there is a huge cost disparity between these machines.

And in fact all these ideas did get implemented in the F-22.

Delta Wing: Check (Find a top view photo of the F-22 and cover the tailrons with your hand and take a look at the wing planform)
Super Maneuverability via Thrust Vectoring: Check
    Super Cruise: Check

So all those lessons were not lost and did go into the aircraft.

there is an info about the international edition:
I was flying a little bit yesterday, to be honest mainly i've crushed heli all the time :) It is complicated.
I didn't recognize any bags yet, the game is stable and alt+tab works without any problems.

Oh, it is uncomparable things IMO. The problem is, that AH-1W in some condition is better than Apache. KA-50 was developed as a day-time anti-tank helicopter to replace Mi-24. There was a competition in middle 80-s between Mi-28 and KA-50. Traditionally, Mil design bureau had a strong lobby in army, but surprisingly, KA-50 won this contest, even military guys were unhappy with both. There is a still discussion, that it is impossible for the regular pilot to operate 1 seat combat helicopter efficient way.
The great advantage of KA-50 was a well developed data-link, it has better haracterisitcs of speed, maneuverability, and it is simply much easier to flight. Afganistan war showed, that main losses came from the tail rotor damage, and it is not critical for the KA-50. Ejection seat is realised, and that is also an issue. Pilots are really expensive and it takes time to prepare new.

The game is absolutely amazing. I'm a little bit shocked and feel like a beginner in sims. It is definitely a new standard. I'm totally overload with information now, even I haven't touch a lot of things like start up procedure yet (you can skipped it by home+lwin) and weapons systems. Just learning to fly.

Graphics is based on improved lock on engine.
